California spent 9.5 billion on illegal immigrant healthcare.

This is ultimately what the left wants to see throughout the country. Bring them in, care and legalize them, voters for life.

Ah yes, "the left" that want all things the same.

I have no idea if the numbers are correct and I'm not arguing for or against but I remember Newsome saying something like it would be cheaper than the cost to hospitals that will go unpaid when they show up to emergency rooms because they don't have insurance.

I'm not quite following... so i'm not arguing. CA is paying for insurance for illegals?

State’s rights, amirite guys? If the world’s 5th largest economy wants to provide health insurance to undocumented migrants, who are we to judge them.

Found an article about it

"Immigration and health care advocates, who spent more than a decade fighting for the changes, have said the expanded coverage will close a gap in health care access and save the state money in the long run. Those who live in the state illegally often delay or avoid care because they aren’t eligible for most coverage, making it more expensive to treat them when they end up in emergency rooms.

“It’s a win-win, because it allows us to provide comprehensive care and we believe this will help keep our communities healthier,” said Dr. Efrain Talamantes, chief operating officer at AltaMed in Los Angeles, the largest federally qualified health center in California."

Oh the horror of taking care of people. Good thing we have people like yourself who don't want any type of healthcare paid for by the government.

What about sending them back? Was that an option?……..

Outstanding article and terrific explanation on how this works. Brilliant to give them free healthcare proactively for everything. God knows those ER trips add up. You guys will defend anything. This state is upside down. Businesses leaving every week, crime through the roof, completely mismanaged, yet the left is concerned with “expanded” healthcare for illegals (apparently the normal healthcare they get wasn’t good enough), and making sure they can vote.

So his argument is they don’t pay their hospital bills so the taxpayers in the state should subsidize their entire healthcare bill? That’s genius level stuff.

How bout pay your bill or we deport your ass.

I don’t like the horror of Americans who can hardly pay their bills being denied adequate health care because they either lack insurance or sufficient funds to pay for money over what is covered

SEND ALL THE ILLEGALS BACK AND HAVE THEIR COUNTRY PAY THEIR BILLS AND LETS HAVE AMERICANS TAKEN CARE OF BETTER

Hold up on the diatribe dude because I made it clear that I wasn't advocating for it, I was just answering your question. And lol at "making sure they can vote" because that's definitely not something I or anyone I know supports, but for the record, it wouldn't ensure a Democrat vote anyway as almost 50% of male Latinos voted for Trump last year.

Don't they end up paying for it anyway one way or another?

Yes, which makes it worse. Btw wasn’t that also a big talking point for you guys. These illegals pay taxes right? So I guess they’re entitled to it. They’re working and paying taxes but not paying for their healthcare. Right. You know how that would work? The government would take that money owed directly from their paycheck they were paying taxes on. Surprise, it ain’t happening because they don’t pay taxes.

Yes, whether taxes or inflated health insurance premiums or inflated healthcare costs, we bear the cost of illegals.

The only logical solution is to require ID and immediately contact ICE to deport illegals. We will be kind and provide the minimum necessary care, but they will be deported directly from discharge.

dpic73, you may be correct on what you say Newsome said about being cheaper than letting hospitals go unpaid. It would have been better, however, if Biden, Newsome, etc. had done their job and not allowed the illegals into the country initially!!

If they are shipped back to where they came from there wouldn't be any expense, even better, don't let illegals into the country initially.

So we just let their children die.

100% Agree with this

Treat and stabilize patient and then because the patient is a criminal

Have ICE pick them up and deport them

That’s NOT being unkind

That is treating the law as supreme and protecting American citizens

It is not Americans fault that people left their country and came to America without support

Americans should not support parasitic behavior

FTR, there are many states besides California, including red state Utah, who also cover immigrants regardless of status:

" In January, Republican-controlled Utah will start covering children regardless of immigration status, while New York and California will widen eligibility to cover more adults.

"These are kids, and we have a heart," said Utah state Rep. Jim Dunnigan, a Republican who initially opposed his state's plan to cover children lacking legal status but relented after compromises including a cap on enrollment."

Again, I'm not arguing for or against but these states have determined there is a cost benefit analysis to covering them for several reasons:

"The pandemic highlighted the importance of insurance coverage to control the spread of infectious diseases; and some states are focusing on people without legal status to further drive down the country's record-low uninsured rate.

States have also expanded coverage in response to pleas from hospitals, lawmakers say, to reduce the financial burden of treating uninsured patients.

All states pay hospitals to provide emergency services to some unauthorized residents in emergency rooms, a program known as Emergency Medicaid. About a dozen states have extended coverage for only prenatal care for such people. Full state-provided health insurance coverage is much less common, but increasing."

"There is a growing acknowledgement that people regardless of their immigration status are part of the community and should have access to health care in a regular, reliable manner," Fox said. "If they don't, it adds costs and trauma to the health systems and communities."

If the way the right feels about immigrants is what gets us universal healthcare, I will certainly consider it a silver lining.
