"A Jan. 6 defendant accused of toppling a police barricade is now accused of writing a letter talking about getting rid of politicians with a woodchipper, according to court documents filed Monday.
‘All these poltions(sic) in office need to go, a woodchiper(sic) sounds good’ Ryan Samsel, 38, of Bristol, Bucks County, said in the June 2 letter riddled with misspellings from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia. “I’ll tell people get your wepons (sic) kiss your kidds (sic) goodbye and let’s (expletive) go!”
The letters were referenced in court documents asking for more time for an independent medical examination of Samsel.
Samsel refused to be examined while wearing handcuffs, and stormed out of the examination room in the special housing unit while calling the examiner a slur on June 10, prosecutors said.
On a previous telephone call, Samsel made several statements about stabbing or punching FBI agents, which landed him in the special housing unit in the first place, according to prosecutors.
Samsel is being held on charges that he assaulted a law enforcement officer during the Jan. 6 riot that temporarily shut down a session by Congress that was meeting to certify Joe Biden’s election as president.
Investigators say he was part of a group of Trump supporters who pushed down a barricade, knocking over a female officer who was trying to stop them.
The officer struck her head and briefly lost consciousness. Samsel moved that officer, who told investigators Samsel told her “We don’t have to hurt you, why are you standing in our way?” Hours later the officer had to be rushed to the hospital after passing out from a concussion.
FBI agents said they identified Samsel, and found he was on parole in Pennsylvania and was wanted out of Riverside, New Jersey, on a warrant in a 2019 assault case. His driver’s license photo appeared to match the images from the videos, investigators said.
Samsel is charged with forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating or interfering with a federal agent; committing or attempting to commit an act to obstruct law enforcement and obstruction of official proceedings.
Elisabeth Pasqualini, Samsel’s lawyer from the Harrisburg area, previously accused a corrections officer of “viciously and savagely” beating Samsel while his hands were ziptied behind his back on March 21, 2021, resulting in Samsel’s hospitalization.
The FBI was investigating the incident as of April 2021, according to Pasqualini."
