Do you ever have real political conversations with them beyond a surface level? Do you think you might be doing a little projecting on what they think of conservatism? Three of my biggest clients are headquartered in Europe and I've visited four times in the last few years and will be going again in May. I trust what I know based on my own interactions.

They all remember how things were under Mussolini, Hitler and Franco so they absolutely bristle at the idea of another conservative far-right leader coming to power. Are you aware that after Musk started advocating for the AfD hundreds of thousands of Germans came out to protest and show they were serious about not letting that ideology gain a foothold again.

Spent a few days in France escorting a senior ranking general for a memorial dedication to the 167th Alabama and the battle of Croix Rouge Farm during WWI on on Armistice day in 2010-ish. 2014-15 i spend a week or so in Poland acting as a "consultant" to their MoD to give them info / ideas as they were looking to revamp their Territorial Defense Forces to prepare for a potential threat/invasion/occupation from the East. In france I had a guy and his young kid come up to me (i was in full dress uniform) to introduce his kid and let me know that the people of france (or him at least) were appreciative of what Americans had done for them in two world wars. He told me that was why why he brought his son to the dedication ceremony for an American monument in the middle of a cornfield in the French couyntryside. . He emphasized to me that the PEOPLE of france were different than their GOVERNMENT ... (Hmmm... that's an interesting concept.. no? ) Poland... nationalistic. Not trusting of their historical enemies.. Germany and Russia. Proud and not willing to see their country overrun by wave after wave of immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. The seniment was that poland was for the poles. Period.

To your point about generations being killed in war. funny... in Afghanistan in 2006 i remember talking with some hard as rocks Norweigains and some Brits commiserating with them about how worthless the german military contingent was.
