This reeks of Lake trying to bolster her candidacy through making herself a hero. Look, I have zero doubt this stuff goes on in our political system. Seems pretty obvious. Let me ask you this- If this were a recording of a Dem, currently running for office, adamantly turning down a bribe to stay out of the race and then it was leaked to the public, what would your gut tell you?
If its staged, why would Dewit do that to himself? His political career is over and he possibly put himself in legal jeopardy. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me, but I will keep an open mind until further information comes out.
Dewit most likely had no clue. Which guarantees Lake has screwed herself by releasing the audio. At this point, if you’re a Lake staffer or any potential ally for that matter, how can you trust her? If you push back against her agenda or offer advice she doesn’t like, potentially she’ll release a recording “exposing” you. This was a short-sighted move to earn herself brownie points in her upcoming election. Long-term she’s most likely shot herself in the foot.
I won't pretend to try and get in their heads. It's just the circumstances and the context. Nothing about this feels legitimate to me, and I have a world class bullshit detector. I called early bullshit on the kid in the homemade balloon out in Colorado back in 09, and on the dumbass in Colleton Co. who claimed a snake jumped in his canoe a few years ago. Half the candidates who enter any given political race do so for the buyout. Politics is the dirtiest business on earth, bar none. There's always been corruption and there always will be. None of it means there is a deep state conspiracy against Trump/Maga.

I don't think political suicide by Dewit is a likely explanation. If you want to commit political suicide you would do it in a public arena, not via a surreptitious recording. There would just be much more effective ways. So I'm crossing that off the list.

Occam's Razor. The party didn’t want her to run because MAGA candidates were/are less electable in a purple state due to the stain of Trump, therefore he wanted to incentivize her to drop out in favor of a more electable candidate. I don’t think this has anything to do with deep state or conspiracies or anything else.
He clearly says "Very powerful people back east." He also mentions they are willing to kill. And they have the ability to let her name her price. Ie. Money is not an issue.
Who do you think that is? I'm open to other suggestions, but one of the first guesses has to be a 3 letter agency.
By all means, he could clear this up and give the public a response. But, tellingly, he has not made a public response yet. We The People are waiting for his explanation.

Agreed. I’d love for someone to investigate this and find out who was behind the offer. But I’d be willing to bet that it won’t happen. Because the maga politicians don’t really care, it’s just the latest iteration of the rallying cry to work up the mob.

Another option: Lake is a shit candidate that brings nothing to the table and can’t win. Trump likes her and so Dewit throws her a bone and offers her money to not run. She fvcks herself by recording said conversation.
Yeah, the probability of that is non zero, but super small. That is not on my list of acceptable explanations.
