Life long Republican here, my ballot has been completed for over a week minus the most important race...it has been sitting on the counter in the kitchen, I look at it 2-3 times a day but can't bring myself to fill in that last bubble. I have never voted for anyone other than a Republican, including Trump the last two times. I don't think I can do it a third...I can't get past the horror of January 6th. There is zero doubt in my mind that everything he said and did that day and the days leading up to it, were thought out and calculated on his part. Additionally, it has been unprecedented the number of individuals in his first administration, some incredibly close to him who have spoken out against him. I don't believe their warnings should be completely ignored. I don't feel he respects the rule of law and has said too many things that leave little doubt he truly feels he is above the law. How can I in good conscience vote for this individual?

He and his cronies like MTG are already blasting it across their accounts. His reaction to places like PA actually has me more confident in a loss now. There are rumors that he has been told internally that he will not win PA/WI/MI and other states are in jeopardy, which is why he pulled out of the Penn State/Ohio State game and has started accusing people of election fraud in PA.

Trump wanted to be Hitler during his first term and not leave office but he kinda got distracted and forgot and he left anyway. However during a second term he's going to remember to become hitler, appoint himself dictator with the support of his entire administration, congress, DOJ, SCOTUS, and the entire US department of Defense and throw all the jews, blacks and hispanics into concentration camps.? Yeah, no. Not going to happen. I sincerely don' t understand the write in vote thing. There is no third choice that matters. . You're not voting to make either one of them your personal role model. I don’t have a team. I vote the individual. Always have. Have voted on both sides of the aisle multiple times in past presidential races. In this election, in all the non-presidential contests, I voted for 5 democrats and 4 republicans. In two of those races, one R was unopposed and one D was unopposed. When it came to the presidency, I had no conflicts whatsoever of voting for the most viable candidate to defeat Trump. I’ve long thought him to be a complete POS; he’s done nothing but affirm my observations. Had the Rs nominated Haley, I most likely would have voted Republican. But Trump is the biggest threat to democracy I’ve ever witnessed, and I do have vague recollections of the reverberations from the Cold War. Whatever you do, listen to your gut and vote for anyone else.

OP I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a lifelong Republican. Unfortunately the party has been morphed into a right wing hate party by a guy who isn't even a Republican. I voted for Trump the first go round. Never again. He's a traitor and a terrible person. I won't vote for Kamala either...she's not good and it's ludicrous that these are our choices. I don't fault folks for being conflicted about voting for Trump. He's a crappy candidate. He got bet by Joe Friggin Biden for goodness sake and has at best a razor thin margin over someone even worse than him in Kamala Harris! There's hardly been a worse candidate on the left than either of those two since Walter Mondale or Jimmy Carter.

Trump's behavior on J6 disturbs me as well, even if much of it is overblown. Still, what he did in office pre-COVID was remarkable. He has the guts to do what needs to be done that others lack. And I think our government overall is strong enough to contain any potential Trump excesses, overblown as the those fears may be as well.

While I have never voted for Trump in a primary, I will 100% be voting for him for a third time on election day and am desperately hoping and praying that he wins.

My personal opinion is you should do what you think will produce the best outcome for the country. If you are not in a swing state, it really does not matter and being a conscientious objector, so to speak is perfectly fine. It is truly awful we have these two candidates. Trump is a crappy person, no doubt about it. I will likely write in a candidate bc I am in SC where he will carry the state. If I were in a swing state, I would 100% vote for him with zero hesitation.

The vast majority of the fearmongering on the left about a trump potus is just that. We have four actual years where he was potus where he did pretty much nothing the left swears he will do if elected - even though he was not guaranteed another term. On top of that, almost everything they fear would be impossible without congressional approval in addition to constitutional amendments for most of the crazy ideas the left thinks will come to fruition. All this with what will likely be narrow margins in both the house and the senate. For me, it a combination of not believing he actually has any intention of doing most things they consider being a threat to democracy combined with the fact he would not be able to do them even if he wanted to that makes me pretty much ignore that nonsense.

In the end, you are either going to get more dem policy or more pub policy implemented and either more conservative scotus appointments or more liberal scotus appointments. Imo, your vote should reflect which one of those scenarios you want more or want least. I look at it as I am not voting for a person, I am voting for the best outcome for the country. It's an easy decision for me from that perspective. IF you are in a swing state, your vote, or lack thereof will help determine the direction of the country. We are going further left or further right, no way around that. Swing state voters will determine which direction we go regardless of the name beside the D or the R. We had our chance to pick better candidates and we screwed it up royally. We still have to choose if we want to go right or left.

i have a good friend who has same life long republican story as you. He wrote in John Kasich as an early voter.
