MONDAY CLEMSON FOOTBALL NUGGETS
By: Larry Williams

MICKEY CONN (Larry)

-- Conn said South Carolina has done a really good job of getting creative with Jaheim Bell, and using shifts and motions and different formations. He said usually you can find tendencies with alignments, but the challenge with South Carolina is they have multiple guys playing different positions in those different alignments.

-- He said Spencer Rattler is a really good player.

-- He said Nate Wiggins has been the most consistent cover guy this year. He got a little rattled at Wake Forest, but he battled through that and recovered from it. That shows mental toughness, and Conn is really proud of what he's done.

-- He loves the energy and enthusiasm the defense is playing with right now. They've been attacking more the past two games, and the linebackers have grown because they've become more intentional in their preparation.

-- Getting Trenton Simpson back is going to help us. He's still nursing a sore ankle, but you saw what he's capable of Saturday. He said things are a lot less cloudy for Simpson at SAM because there's more open space. Said there's a lot of moving parts inside.

"And you saw how fast he is off the edge."

-- The new linebacker configuration is "big time."

"It's going to make us a lot better."

-- He feels like this defense is better when it's attacking. They have nine sacks in the last two games, and they play a little harder when they know the sacks are going to be more likely.

BRANDON STREETER

-- He said South Carolina has three really good corners. They played more man than usual against Tennessee and did a really good job of it.

Cam Smith is a corner playing nickel.

All three of the corners have a lot of confidence after the last game.

-- DJ has a lot of confidence right now running the ball. They manufactured a running game in a different way against Miami because the Hurricanes were keying in on the running backs.

-- Streeter likes the way they've manufactured production and points through the season, spreading the ball around to a bunch of different guys and in different ways.

"To me that's what you want is an offense that's not one-dimensional or predictable."

-- He noted that DJ makes the first guy miss almost every time he's running it. His vision is very good and he can change direction on one cut, something a lot of guys can't do.

-- Mitchell Mayes was really good against Louisville, and he faced a lot of pressure against Miami by getting his first start. He carried it over very well and showed that the staff can be really comfortable when he's in there.

-- All four of South Carolina's defensive linemen are talented. He said Clemson recruited most if not all of them.

JAKE BRININGSTOOL

-- He said this offense is showing flashes of greatness, as evidenced in the first half against Miami. He said the challenge now is to carry over the way they are practicing into games, and do it for a full game.

-- He said they make fun of DJ for his dead-leg juke move.

"We call him dead-leg DJ."

"I love the way he runs the ball. Those are hard-earned yards."

-- He was asked how Clemson is processing South Carolina's mammoth upset of Tennessee.

"Them coming in hot and with a sense of arrogance is perfect for us."
