Just to be clear, you would probably be right in the large majority of cases- stereo types don't evolve for no reason. However, repeated stereo types, even if true, are commonly shouted down as racist/bigoted speech.
You indicated that if that image of someone with a confederate flag did not induce some sort of outrage, it may be racist. That would require the assumption the guy with flag was, in fact, racist.
Let me make this simple for you:
He was asking for proof that he was a racist. I was using one small example(I had plenty to choose from) to point out that he gets outraged when someone is penalized for using Confederate flag imagery - he also defends racists.
However, he never speaks out against them when for example they illegally enter the Capitol to obstruct an official proceeding waving a Confederate flag. Things like that don't bother him at all.
Now that doesn't officially make him a racist but it's the totality of his posts, including what he says and doesn't say, that paints the picture.
