I am not arguing that we should wear masks now. I don't (except yesterday when I was asked to put one on in a hospital). The other poster said there was no science to support mask wearing, I just provided the data and science.

I’d say that’s pretty subjective. To my mind, nearly a million dead Americans is pretty significant and it’s not too much to ask people to wear a piece of cloth on their face to try to stop that, nor is it unprecedented.

Surgical masks are for prevention of bacterial wound and body cavity infections in the OR. Interestingly they make no difference at all in that. Brave souls have studied it. But we will continue to wear them in the OR. Who wants blood, bile, or shit in his or her mouth?
So what good do the masks do in the OR? It’s very interesting. If an OR team member has a respiratory illness (see cold,flu, and almost certainly Covid) it reduces spread to other OR personnel quite effectively. Not completely. That has clearly been shown. Anything spread via droplets, which is the way all respiratory viruses spread. Masks do ameliorate the spread of Covid. Just not as well as we like. Early on there was nothing else and it was a deadlier bug. Now, meh.
Talk about something almost useless against Covid: increased hand hygiene. Covid doesn’t spread that way and even the CDC said early on all that extra wipe down crap doesn’t do much.

I think it's up to the airport. I did not wear one at CHS or LGA. I fly to MCO Wednesday. JFK and Paris and Faro the following week. Not sure how Europe is handling it.
I know the UK lifted masking requirements quite some time ago in all public trans settings. Has been up to the individual since end of last year maybe or Jan this year.

Had no idea JFK still required masks, more reason to fly out of Newark despite it being a crappier airport. I typically avoid JFK regardless as it's a massive pain to get to for me but for London trips, they have more options.
