It doesn't say how or why the statements are not accurate. It also doesn't say that Cohen didn't say that the president instructed him to lie.
It is saying that the corroborating evidence is not accurately reported--not that there necessarily isn't any, but that the characterization by Buzzfeed is incorrect, but again not spelling out how or why. If the office isn't going to say anything to the public and then intervene here--I would like a bit more clarity.
They could have also told Buzzfeed this when they were asked for comment on the article before publication.
Cormier has been pretty solid so far with his reporting, Leopold not as much. But these are the same guys who broke the Trump moscow story the president denied until and then changed his story to say it was an unfunded letter of intent and never even a proposal or draft contract. But then, oops, there was a signed letter by Trump where he had, in fact, signed a letter of intent to move forward with negotiations.
So I am interested to see how this unfolds since they aren't backtracking...
