Barack Obama is no longer No. 1 in the hearts and minds of young Americans. Nearly one in three (31%) chose Bernie Sanders as the political figure they like and respect most, followed by President Obama (18%) and Hillary Clinton (11%). The Republicans don’t just lag behind, they limp, with Donald Trump in at 9%, Ted Cruz at 5%, and Marco Rubio at 3%.

Only 1/3 chose capitalism as the economic system they preferred. 58% chose socialism and 9% chose communism.

I assume these people have parents! What the hell are we teaching them?

most don't know what socialism is, what they really want is socialy oriented democracies, like Finland & Sweeden, which are not socialism. Many who claim prefer socialism want more government control of social systems but don't particularly care about government control of the means of production which characterizes socialsm, past consumer protections.

Socialism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive. You can take care of your population and be a capitalist at the same time.

Bernie offered free everything from the government ......Most 18-26 year olds would be into that ....they aren't old enough yet or have life experience to realize the consequences of that . Nothing is free .

It's the participation trophy and gimme, gimme generation. They simply don't know any better because they don't have a job and think the world is unfair.

government guaranteed education loans are going to be to my children what corporate bailouts / medicare is to my generation. (how our parents screwed us)

I have tried to point out the Venezuela "Petri dish" to my 19 year old socialist nephew, as an excellent means of understanding what can go wrong. He just can't get beyond the "teaser rates" of a free college education, government supplied healthcare and numerous other government supplied benefits. SMH

Just wait till they go earn a living rather than living off of Mom and Dad....

Like they say,

If you were not a Democrat when you are young , you have no heart
If you are not a Republican when you have a family , you have no brain

Quirky old antiestablishment white guy. Arrogant, vulgar, egotistical areshole. Corrupt, lying thief. Disappointing, shallow, ineffective sissy.

Those are the choices, not surprising who they favor.

18 - 26 year olds never vote anyways. They'll feel differently once they start actually having to pay taxes on more than $30k a year.

What we are teaching them but NOT all of them

The above is true as long as they can be the parasite off mom and dad

When that runs out and they are broke and out of the basement then the female of the species chunky does the bonbon eating watching soap operas all day daydreaming of finding Mr. RIGHT or the males become angry old white bald men working the rest of their lives to pay for the next generation of loser 18-26 year old kids who morph into the .............................well the cycle repeats itself

people love to say that they hate socialism but I don't see them sending back their social security checks or refusing medicare; can't have it both ways

When I graduated I started off life with a debt load of $7,500 and I thought it was horrible. These kids today are starting off with loads approaching $50k plus in some cases and most no less than $30K. These kids feel that they cannot even afford to get married! The dream of affording kids and a house are far far away. That is why you see so many of them abandoning cars and living in small townhouses in the city where they can get a job making $30K a year with a college debt load twice their annual salary. Capitalism has failed them in a big way because almost every single Republican legislature has cut funding for higher ed. Why has the price for Clemson exploded? The biggest reason post 2008 is because Republicans balanced the budgets on the backs of the College student. They are not stupid. They see what has been done to them by people who scream that capitalism is the best way. Republicans thought that there would be no political cost for abandoning the funding of higher ed other than some pissed off liberal college faculty members. They were wrong. This is what Bernie is telling these kids and it is a truthful answer. You may not like his solution but he speaks to them about their broken dreams and it is a powerful message.

That's not a shocker since they paid into both their entire working lives.

I bet they'd be more ok with ditching both if they got a full refund, including interest.

Were the kids not aware of the costs of the education and the salaries of the jobs available to them when they decided to go to college? Seems like poor planning to go $60k in debt for a job paying $30k/yr

Im a old college student now and the garbage the force down the kids throat is blinding and the same breath telling me but youre not in the same boat. You press issues really hard with them they will back down. Actually I have fun with these crazies

Tuition was exploding well before 2008.

College debt wouldn't be half the problem it is now if students were majoring in fields that are in high demand and for-profit colleges taking advantage of students.

Republicans aren't the only ones cutting funding. CA has slashed it.

University of Vermont tuition: $14,664 for in-state. Why isn't it much lower in Bernie's state?

Socialism is different than what these kids think it really is. That's why the leaders of Denmark and other Nordic countries get upset when Americans call them Socialist. Americans have a different definition of it than Europeans.

What Bernie and nuts like Jill Stein don't realize is that sharp tax increases will greatly affect behaviors. Most of their plans rest on the idea that the rich, for instance, will trade stocks at the same rate if taxes are raised sharply. I just bring this up to prove how most of the programs liberals want would cost far more than advertised.

In a survey of me, 18-26 year olds are stupid ass mf'ers, and nobody cares what they think, and they need to keep their mouth shut, at all times, and especially if they are asked an important question like about politics. They should answer like Mike Leach and respectfully decline to answer the question because I'm a fvcking moron, I don't know what in the hell I'm talking about, and please excuse my ignorance, do I get a trophy now?

If you think this country is in sad shape now, and you're worried about what's going to happen over the next 4-8 years, just think about how awful this country is going to be in 16+ years when these kids have kids of their own. If something doesn't drastically change, we're screwed.

Product of educators and herd mentality.
Currently cool to be a Bernie supporter - sad commentary on society.

Spoken like a true moron. "it's not my fault college is so expensive and I have all this debt, and I can't get a job. No one told me that I wouldn't be able to get a job with a degree in philosophy, art history, or basket weaving"!

Not only that....why go to a school you can't afford? if CU is too much go to CoC. If that's too much go to Francis Marion. Folks seem to forget they are "buyers" in this equation.

PREACH

If Student Loans were given out like every other form of money lending, philosophy, sociology and education majors would only be given limited loan amounts IMO. Art, history and English majors would be laughed out of the lending office or given something like $750 a semester for books at max.

When everyone is pretty much guaranteed to get student loans... well... we see what has happened as costs explode across the board for higher education.

Now, are there other issues as well? Of course - tenured professors being one that came to me first. This recent political correctness trend has also led to many universities being forced to or choosing to bring in 'Diversity Staff' or implementing 'diversity training' and other additional requirements for professors, which is just more wasteful spending.

Does it serve a purpose? Sure.

Does it need to be there for the university to do its main function - educating students on the subject material of their choosing? Not at all

I hate my generation.

Sincerely,

Millennial, Clemson Class of 2011

The results of ANY poll can bring desired results by who is polled and questions asked. Thank God said age group doesn't doesn't control our society and thank God they can wise up before they do.

In the words of the liar, thief, murderer and traitor...."What difference does it make now?"

This is, literally, the dumbest thing I've read all day.

For anyone to produce the results of a survey in which the participants don't/can't understand nor comprehend the question is completely meaningless. Even though they "believe" they understand, just as most posters on here do, they have no idea what capitalism is. It's an impossible question to know if you have never experienced it for ourselves. Capitalism is a direct correlation to the freedom/liberty within a country, that's an historical fact. We can read about it, but how can I (we) fully appreciate capitalism if we have never been free? I know I haven't and neither have any of you.

I (we) own nothing, zero, nada, zilch. I don't anything of value (wealth), my car, my house, my property, my bank account, even the organs in my body. If I don't own these things of value (wealth), the logical question becomes, who does? You may think you do, but check again before you reply. The Constitution was written and explicitly outlines (the basis for every original amendment IS private property) that it was never supposed to be this way, but it is now, and for an 18-26 year old to understand this and for anyone to assume they can or will make an educated decision is laughable at best and sad as hell at worst. This applies to any age group in my opinion.
