OT - NEWSPRING ARTICLE

God, Perry Noble creeps me out.

I need some help here, Newspring people. Please go to Perry Noble's FB page (I don't know much about FB, but I guess this is like his homepage or whatever you call it). There's a particular video with the heading "3,000 in a day!!!" in which Mr. Noble talks about his hopes to baptize 3,000 people in one day. At the end of the video, he mentions his apple watch and says "that's how I knew I went over ten thousand dollars."

Please explain to me what he's talking about? Was this a Freudian slip? Earlier in the video he mentions that he walked 10 miles. It seems that he meant to say "that's how I knew I walked over 10 miles," but rather, he talks about money. I found this very interesting....

Y'all keep tithing!!!

Haha yep that was a Freudian slip!

And his slogan "The best is yet to come" is the same as Dabo's? Who coined it first I wonder? I think I'm going to be sick...

I don't understand why people get so upset at the thought of people tithing. It's their money, they can do what they want with it. Churches do a lot of good with that money. What I do get is people being mad at Christians blindly giving and preachers talking about tithing too much. Every church should be open with where they allocate the money. My church gives full disclosure on where every penny goes, the majority going to outside of the church. Mega church preachers hiding how much they make and where money goes is a long term recipe for disaster.

My biggest gripe with Newspring is the use of the NIV bible. Why is large portions of the KJV left out or changed if the NIV is just a modern translation? Not trying to start anything, i just really want to know.

It has nothing to do with people's willingness to tithe...that is a personal decision. It is how Perry extorts people to tithe and turns almost all of his sermons into a tithing lesson. It is also about how churches still push tithing even though it is part of the old law that went away with the New Covenant.

I'm not suggesting this is the correct way to do it, but our church doesn't even take an offering during the service. They just have online giving for their members on their website and Dropbox outside of the sanctuary for those who don't like to use the internets.

We have had sermons on tithing but they just don't want anyone to feel guilted into giving by passing a plate while the guy beside you watches you.

My church used to do this, but I guess they needed money and the scrapped it and started taking it up during service and guilting people.

What I said was pretty much saying I don't really agree with how New Spring handles their financials.

A church were people worship the preacher is my biggest issue. The tithing creeps me out and keeping "baptisms" as a stat is also out of comfort zone.

It does get people going to church though. So that part is good.

Same reason cock fans took up for Spurrier and made excuses for him when left them high and dry in the middle of the season.

It blows my mind people listen to him and take him seriously. He is teaching a complete bastardized version of the Bible.
Well he done me in when he said the 10 commandments wasn't commandments it was promises. He is supposed to be lead by God and seek God for guidance and understanding of the Bible. Yes every one makes mistakes pastors included. But when you have a sermon that he should study and still have that in the sermon something isn't right. Our church shows where every penny is taken in and where every penny goes and we vote on the budget as a church. False prophets in the last days and it's the most I've ever seen in my opinion.

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. Transparency would resolve a lot of the controversy. Or not, depending on where the money actually goes. 59.3 Million dollars from tithes and offerings in 2014.

When I created the 9 page thread on this very subject not one "owner" could tell me how exactly the money is spent. It astonishing the blind trust they have in this guy.

No one here probably has a problem with tithing. I would just have a problem tithing to this idiot:

Holy crap. I've read the threads on here, but never listened to that guy. While I will never get those 3 minutes back, I learned that I should link the passover and the death of my first born child to not tithing. Not to mention the lack of a steady job, automotive troubles and sick children (assuming we're referring to the ones that survived the murderous rampage levied on the non-tithers' progeny).

That was one of the worst things I have ever seen. I'm really struggling to understand how someone participates in that nonsense. It's great that people are being drawn to religion, but my goodness, that sure seems like a bastardized version of it.

What's the over/under on how many times Noble mentioned tithing during his Easter service? I guarantee Noble doesn't think those 1244 are saved if they didn't pay up.
Not once. That's cute that you talk crap about him constantly. People get saved and turn their lives over to Christ and all you can do is bash the preacher. People like you and some of the other people in this thread are why so many people are turned off by church. Attacking a preacher that you don't like is childish. His church isn't for everyone and that's fine, but attacking him every chance you get is ridiculous. Grow up.

He doesn't extort people to tithe and he doesn't turn almost every sermon in to a tithing lesson, but don't let facts get in the way.

RUSTLE THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT......OVER. NOT A DRILL. OVER.

Actually, he doesn't. But I wouldn't expect you to actually back up anything you say with facts.

I don't normally get involved in the religion threads, but how do you explain the video of his sermon above? He literally links the murder of children on passover to tithing. He says that your job security, automotive troubles and children's illnesses are linked to not tithing. He blatantly calls people who think the tithing concept is from the old testament "stupid." How is that the behavior of a man of God?

The vid is actually an excellent example of how/why religion has proliferated. He's herding the sheep.

I haven't watched it. I will say that the video is several years old. Everybody grows and changes. The difference between you and him is that people don't video you at your job and put it on the Internet for everybody to scrutinize. For the record, in the 5 years or so that I've been attending Newspring, he hasn't said anything close to that and might preach on tithing twice a year, if that. He's not perfect, but neither are the people who sit behind their computers and bash him.

Perry ladies and gentlemen

Yes he does. I have been to many churches in my lifetime, many different denominations, races, etc...and I have never seen one so focused on tithing, and not even close.

I have heard him say on numerous occasions that if you don't tithe, God will punish you by having your car break down, your a/c go out or even your kid constantly at the doctor. That is extortion. That is not in the Bible. And it is a terrible thing to do. And I have heard him go that route many times. He has even called be "stupid" and "idiots" for not agreeing with him. He has bastardized verses in the new testament to try to prove that tithing isn't the old law. He even tried to say The Seed and the Sower parable was about tithing. That story has literally nothing to do about tithing and it shows you not only his motives but his lack of knowledge of the Bible.

You have bought right into his pitch, and that is how a cult works.

And trust me, don't even bother debating me on the Bible, because I assure you are wasting your time.

Not ITT so question: what is Newspring? No big churches up here so curious what all the hub-bub is about

I'm certainly not perfect, but I also don't ask for money in the name of the Lord. That requires a different standard that I'm am happy not to be held to.

If I'm not mistaken I believe it's in the top 5 churches in the nation based on memberships.

You obviously haven't been to Newspring recently. He hardly ever preaches on tithing. Every church preaches on tithing from time to time. He doesn't do it any more than any other church I've ever been to. I don't know what your opinion is based on and I don't really care. If you want to keep bashing him, that's on you. We'll all be judged one day and have to answer for our actions. It's laughable that you think it's a cult. And I don't need to debate you on the Bible because, unlike you, I don't need to get in to constant dick measuring contests to build up my e-cred while I hide behind an anonymous handle on a message board.

Dont be so mad pussy cat

Buy you are falling into the trap that all NS owners do....your defensiveness essentially proves my point. If someone talked negatively about my church or pastor, I wouldn't care. However NS has created a "them vs us" mentality. Even the slight mention of anything negative about NS or Dear Leader, and it is instant defense mode.

I'm not mad at all. But thanks for your concern.

Hate to break it to you but you aren't going to a church, you're attending a business

Have any TI folks who are "owners" of NS ever seen the budget of NS?

Just curious as I don't have an opinion

Seems that the amount of money is the root of the controversy

Every church, by definition should have its budget and expenses available to its flock

What is Perry's salary, including ALL benefits?

If the Owners don't know then they aren't owners and merely contributors to Perry's plan, it seems
