A few years ago when Doc Redman won the US AM I tuned into the semifinal matches. There was another kid that played for Vandy, I think, who was coming off of a poor spring where he shot more rounds over par than under par. Having made the round of 64 and won 4 straight matches they did an interview segment with all 4 semifinalists. The kid from Vandy went on to say after his poor season he made a conscious mindset change from "trying to not play bad" to "playing to play great." In turn he played more aggressive and free compared to tight and conservative and played the best golf of his life to that point.
I say all that to say the offense needs to change their whole philosophical approach or we'll see more of what happened last year and Saturday night at some point.
I'm sure most of us have seen the above chart, but that is what trying to not play poorly looks like.
