Poultry farmer reacts to egg shortage: 'We're entering the fourth year of a battle and we're losing'

Trump had no obligation to put a specific time frame on lowering prices or ending the Ukraine war, etc. Gets really tiring hearing supporters make excuses. Just say he lied and then say you still support his overall moves and move on with life.
So he’s doing the right things and we’re gonna see the CPI go the right way for the first time in a long time tomorrow? Is that your assertion? Or is this inflation transitory like the last shit president got us?

I want to comment on both of these replies:

@UrHuckleberry

Gets really tiring hearing supporters make excuses.

First to your comment A couple wants to have a baby or you want to fix the egg shortage. A mere mortal has to do things at a human pace. Based on your implied impatience you sound like you would expect a couple to have sex and the baby be born in two months.

It requires time to do that. Just as it will require time to accomplish some of the things Trump has said he will do.

@DW4_2016 Please see my response below.

So he’s doing the right things and we’re gonna see the CPI go the right way for the first time in a long time tomorrow

I get the vibe from your writings that using the baby metaphor you expect a couple to have sex and the baby next week.

Let me just say to both of you that if you were asked to fix these America's issues it would be unrealistic of me to expect either of you to complete it with 2 months of taking office which is what you have me to believe is the only outcome you will accept.

Stoicism, patience and compromise. I read and practice these traits in daily life dealing with people and life.

Would encourage you guys just to take a peek at the teachings.

You guys enjoy the day as I am going out to build a new chicken coop my wife is nagging me for. LOL

I don't think you're understanding what I am saying at all.

I am saying Trump knew that it takes 9 months to make a baby and lied and said the baby would be born day 1.

He lied. He knew he was lying. Doesn't mean you have to think his policies are wrong.

All the other nonsense you're spouting I'm not addressing whatsoever. I am literally only saying he lied, knew he was lying, etc.

Only ignorant people thought he meant he would really be able to lower prices on day one. Most people with even a low IQ knows what he was saying was that he will get to work to lower the prices on day one and he went right to work. That being said the Biden team went out of their way to mess things up on their way out so the recovery would take longer so they could use it to attack him from the start. The left is a very dishonest group of people that love to play word games to confuse people to what is going on. Their whole way of thinking is build on a house of cards using smoke and mirrors to hide the truth...

OK you are saying he was lying that he had a magic wand and Heavenly powers that rival Jesus to make changed as soon as he was elected on day one.

Please don’t take this as an insult to anyone but I am really glad that I am not that stupid and know better than that

Dear @DrTigerGoob

If you are a doctor let me share one eternal truth

IT TAKES 9 MONTHS FOR ONE WOMAN TO HAVE A BABY

YOU CANNOT HAVE NINE WOMEN PREGNANT AND HAVE A BABY IN ONE MONTH

Now that I have enlightened you the facts are Trump came into office Jan 20th

The process to get the Sec of Agriculture in place took about another two weeks

The former ADMINISTRATION SLAUGHTERED HUNDREDS OF MILLION OF LAYING AGE CHICKENS INSTEAD OF DOING INNOCULATIONS

So, the present administration comes into office with a deficit of like 200,000 million chickens of laying age

Let me explain it takes a chicken to lay an egg and then it is fertilized by artificial methods to assure consistency

Next, they are incubated, hatched and spend weeks in the nursery at like 93 degrees to get to a size they can survive

Once to that size they get to a pen and are feed for about 6 months before they start laying

SO, IT IS A PROCESS OF ABOUT 6 MONTHS

CHECK BACK AROUND SEPTEMBER TO SEE HOW THE EGG SHORTAGE IS GOING BECAUSE ONLY GOD CAN FIX IT AS FAST AS YOU EXPECT IT TO BE FIXED

I INCLUDED A SIMPLETON'S EXPLANANTION OF THE PROCESS

My father and mother taught me to educate myself before I spoke on any subject

Giving you a starter site. Take a few hours and learn about raising food and farming

I raise and have egg laying chickens as a hobby in my retirement so I don't need eggs

give away dozens each week for kicks to neighbors

I say again...he said he was going to fix it. Has he?

I want egg prices down right now like Trump wants Canada as a 51st state.

Speaker Johnson, claiming this CR spares Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and veterans’ benefits is a razor-sharp distraction from your party’s real agenda. Sure, this stopgap maintains the status quo—but Project 2025 and your GOP budget resolution threaten devastating cuts and privatization, gutting the safety net for the vulnerable under Trump’s reckless leadership. This deception is shameful, a hallmark of an administration that’s consistently prioritized partisan games over the dignity of Americans. As a believer in America’s promise, I demand you stop this charade and protect our citizens, not your narrative. The media must cut through this misinformation, too—don’t let Johnson’s sleight of hand stand. Trump’s legacy of entitlement threats isn’t erased by a temporary fix; it’s time to wield truth and compassion, not lies and cruelty.

DPIC73...you know he didn't say he was going to cut Medicare and Medicaid. Do a simple Google on what he actually said (you can even watch the video). The quotes are out there.....here is what he said.

“Most of the federal spending is entitlements, so that’s like the big one to eliminate.”

“I’m not going to touch Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Now, we’re going to get fraud out of there,” “We’re going to get the fraud out, and everybody wants us to get the fraud out, and, therefore, you will make it better.”

It is REALLY, REALLY clear that he is talking about fraud. He mentioned the Government Accountability Office finding $100's of billions in fraud, but that they didn't do anything about it. Here is the link to the GAO report from 2024
MEDICARE AND MEDICAID Additional Actions Needed to Enhance Program Integrity and Save Billions

On the first page:
What GAO FoundThe Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) estimated a combinedtotal of over $100 billion in improper payments in the Medicare and Medicaidprograms in fiscal year 2023. This represents 43 percent of the government-widetotal of estimated improper payments that agencies reported for that year.

This talking point about cutting Medicare and Medicaid is just plain nonsense and is demonstrably proven false with the above quotes. The fact that the GAO realized it and the congress/white house did NOTHING is what is more concerning to me.

“I’m not going to touch Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Now, we’re going to get fraud out of there,” “We’re going to get the fraud out, and everybody wants us to get the fraud out, and, therefore, you will make it better.”

I appreciate this post tbh- you're taking Trump at his word and what he's said.

The problem is that Trump, Musk, and ALL the Russian bots on twitter whose tweets are constantly posted here and by the MAGA's is calling EVERYTHING fraud. Everything is a BOMBSHELL. Everyone should go to JAIL. Growls has called for the firing squad multiple times about people lol in this forum.

I hear you when you say we should take him at what he says and not hyperbolize, but the problem is everything has been hyperbolized so much by the MAGA crowd (including by its leaders) to create dopamine rushes for their base to keep them hooked that are at best half truths and at worst complete lies, that nothing can be believed anymore. And most of it is just... untrue.

No true American one wants Government bloat. Almost all American's want the Government to be more efficient.

The problem is the current administration, its followers, and its social media Russian bots (this is proven, in fact by Clemson Professors in 20216) want to create such toxicity and hyperbole that nothing seems even real anymore. Hell this entire forum is just ridden with bs tweets and bombshells and "fraud."

Most of its fake. And anyone with a pulse knows it.

Isn't bird flu similar to flu in humans in that major epidemics occur primarily in colder months?

Aren't wild birds a major carrier of bird flu and an important vector in the spread?

For those getting ready to jump into backyard chicken farming

14 Things You Need To Know Before Getting Chickens

Have 7 chickens, which I got last year around Easter. Have a few Brahmas, Orbingtons, a Sapphire Gem and some Wyandottes. All are very hardy Chicken and are pretty good layers. This spring im getting 5 eggs a day. We are getting 4 more this spring another Orbington, a Americanas, and two French macrons.

I gotta admit, the eggs are nice … but … they are a lot of fun. They are pets, and my kids love taking care of them. If you have room, in your backyard … I’d recommend getting chickens for sure. As long as you don’t get a rooster, your neighbors will never know ;)

@PAWrocka

Hey dude

I see where you are enjoying the miracle of backyard chickens

Have been rural farm boy most if my life

There is nothing more fun than having pets like chickens

Growing up my son had the farm turkey I call it as it resembles the wild turkey as holiday cooking turkeys are typically all white

Had white ducks

Domesticated wild mallards

Goats

Geese which were great for a early warning system as they make noise at any intruder

Just had a great life with my kids growing up

Love fish farming but never really got big into it as I did love that going in swamps and catching fish in pools

These are the fun memories

All this dudes on here doing all the racing from thread to thread being the resistance need to get themselves some chickens

Ya man, we are enjoying the heck out of it. I live out on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and it’s very rural out here. It remind me a lot of when I would spend time with my grandparents in Saluda, SC.

We live in a 31 home community, but live on 1 and 1/2 acre lots, so plenty of room. I’d LOVE to get goats to make cheese and such but …. even though I have a great relationship with our HOA (In the president of the HOA), that would just be a bridge too far.

My plan is to wait till my youngest gets into high school and then try to buy more property or a farm a little further out from town and NOT in a community. Even though we are spread out, there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood and both my kids have a great time playing with their friends in the community.

I really love where we live.

Anywhooooo the chickens are great and we are really enjoying them. Like I said, they are more pets than anything. And the eggs they produce are so much better than store bought eggs.

For the past several months, consumers have been faced with a hard reality: Fewer eggs at higher prices. But in the first week of March, prices for wholesale loose eggs fell by $1.20, averaging about $6.85 a dozen nationally, down 15% from the week before, the Department of Agriculture said in its latest market report.

Use the chicken feed from Purina with the high omega 3 content

makes really high protein and omega 3 content eggs like eggland

only problem is higher protein makes boiled eggs difficult to peel for salads and deviled eggs

the white gets torn and sticks to shell

have tried all kinds of ideas

usually using eggs three weeks old to boil makes them easily peelable

trying a few tricks like breaking shell and soaking in water vinegar mix to break down that film between the shell and white

but like you loving the gentlemen farmer retired country farmer lifestyle where my little bit of savings lets me live leisurely with old lady

If you did or did not notice the CPI and PPI BOTH are falling

Its called a trend

Trump has only been in office like 50 days and usually trends and impacts take months

The trends are starting to hit the fan

Prices are going to start falling at a faster rate in the coming months

I was watching the PM of Ireland yesterday with Trump and he brought up the Irish housing shortage

I see great things happening with the SPF lumber coming out of Canada to Ireland

Most people are missing the Trees for the Forest if I can use that metaphor

I wanted to get pigs and cows but my wife names everything and makes them PETS

LOL so no pigs or cows as they would become permanent feed bags

Living on Eastern Shore How's the sea food you grow in traps and such?

Living on Eastern Shore How's the sea food you grow in traps and such?
Grow in traps?

Chesapeake Bay Crabs, oysters, and rock fish are the best and I’ll die on this hill. Specifically, if the blue crab isn’t from the Choptank, I don’t want it.

I die a little inside whenever I’m somewhere in the mid-west and see “Maryland crab cake” on the menu. I get my crabs straight from a buddy of mine who is a waterman and even if we are eating out locally, there are only a few places where I’ll order crabs or crap cakes. Most places, especially on the western shore get there crabs from Louisiana or the Carolinas and … respectfully they are those are trash ;).

Is that you Donald? Didn't I hear how all these prices were going to go down when Trump was President? I didn't hear anything about it taking a long time once Trump was actually in office either. And now it's Biden's fault. Par for the course.

Remember how he was going to stop the Ukraine war even before he was in office?

Even his followers didn't believe that prices were going to go down immediately or that he was going to stop the war before he got in office. They just love the lies.

I just paid 7.99 for a dozen eggs. I'm not rich like all you other folks on here, but I can somehow still afford eggs.

Not sure why this is even a thing, except to blame someone else. Water is wet, the sun rises in the east and it's NEVER EVER Donald Trump's fault.

And I'm certainly not a farming genius like you are, but hens usually lay their 1st egg at about 18 weeks (4.5 months) and ramp up from there. Just so you know. I'm sure it's still Biden's fault.

Edit: To be fair the incubation period for an egg is about 21 days... Three weeks, so 5 months and change
Was in Mexico City recently and the price for a dozen eggs converted from Mexican Pesos to USD
was $1.47 USD ...
