This popped up on my TikTok feed. I understand this choice for terminal illness, but have difficulty with a 28 year tapping out. If this a generational trend, have we failed our youth by not building in resiliency?
I see it. In a nutshell, assisted suicides are up for non-terminally ill people in the 20's-40's space. Some of the reasons cited are despair, global warming, and depression over how the world is. In the featured 28 year old, she's in a loving relationship in a nice home but she's depressed. Depression is an illness but it sounds like rather than leverage treatment, she's just throwing in the towel. Not showing up for me.
Wow, how sad and it brings back too many sad memories when I had to call police to try and stop a suicide after receiving a message of goodbye.I see it. Life presents obstacles for all generations with some always selecting suicide because life is just too much for them. (I have family members who have made that choice.) But if it's truly on the rise, did these young adults not learn life brings joy with the sorrow, there's always something scary in every generation you cannot control (my generation had nuclear annilation), and some of life's most important lessons are learned through adversity and perseverance because life is a journey not a destination.
Prayers for all who are in this space. Hope they find peace, preferably in life and then in God's company 🙏.
Thanks. This unsettled me. Losing hope and promise for a better tomorrow is sad but throwing in the towel is heartbreaking.Wow, how sad and it brings back too many sad memories when I had to call police to try and stop a suicide after receiving a message of goodbye.
I hate it but can't fathom anyone assisting in someone's suicide, especially if they're young and healthy.
Understand @okclem when you tell a fellow TI member to kill themselves?
