Life Long Republican

Was he attacked for a travel ban, or was he attacked for his messaging on the travel ban? Did he point to the experts suggestions, lean on the medical reasons, and talk about how it was a temporary solution but that we would make it through these hard times?

Like listen, this just isn't that hard. People have to continually make up excuses for him not being an adult and it's just exhausting.
Like I said, he was even doing the right things the wrong way.

I'm not making excuses. Trump is his own worst enemy. He's can be great on policy, but his behavior and rhetoric can be awful.

Life long Republican here, my ballot has been completed for over a week minus the most important race...it has been sitting on the counter in the kitchen, I look at it 2-3 times a day but can't bring myself to fill in that last bubble. I have never voted for anyone other than a Republican, including Trump the last two times. I don't think I can do it a third...I can't get past the horror of January 6th. There is zero doubt in my mind that everything he said and did that day and the days leading up to it, were thought out and calculated on his part. Additionally, it has been unprecedented the number of individuals in his first administration, some incredibly close to him who have spoken out against him. I don't believe their warnings should be completely ignored. I don't feel he respects the rule of law and has said too many things that leave little doubt he truly feels he is above the law. How can I in good conscience vote for this individual?

Just to be clear, there is ZERO chance I vote for Harris.

I am leaning towards a write-in decision, I am fully aware of that for all intents and purposes this is essentially like not voting. It makes me feel sick.

For what it's worth, whether you vote for Trump or Harris, I am thankful WE have the right to do so.

Just curious, is anyone else this conflicted?
I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.

It was Obama's travel ban to begin with. Was it his messaging or the media twisting his messaging? There was no Muslim ban just travel from certain Muslim countries that Obama had listed. Muslim's still traveled to the US but not from certain locations. The low IQ people fell for the spin/propaganda to think ALL Muslim's were banned. Just like the "very fine people" and "all Mexicans" hoax's...

You seem like a reasonable person so im curious what your hang up is with Jan 6

Have you looked into what actually happened, or are you just going along with what the leftists and media are saying? Because if you’re an honest person willing to look at the facts and not insane narratives, this shouldn’t be a difficult decision

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it”

I empathize with your position, but none of that suffering and loss happens had Hitler not risen to power in the first place. I don't think Trump is that level of evil, but based on my observation of his words and actions, his clear love of dictators and the events of Jan. 6, I have no doubt that I don't want him in office.

As Shakespeare’s Brutus says in Julius Caesar: ''And therefore think him as a serpent's egg / Which, hatch'd, would, as his kind, grow mischievous, / And kill him in the shell. '' (No...that's not my suggesting he be literally killed, for the record. Merely a metaphor from a character in a play contemplating the loss of his republic to a dictator want-to-be.)

The fuller passage shares some interesting parallels:

And for my part
I know no personal cause to spurn at him,
But for the general. He would be crowned:
How that might change his nature, there’s the
question.
It is the bright day that brings forth the adder,
And that craves wary walking. Crown him that,
And then I grant we put a sting in him
That at his will he may do danger with.
Th’ abuse of greatness is when it disjoins
Remorse from power. And, to speak truth of Caesar,
I have not known when his affections swayed
More than his reason. But ’tis a common proof
That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder,
Whereto the ⌜climber-upward⌝ turns his face;
But, when he once attains the upmost round,
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend. So Caesar may.
Then, lest he may, prevent. And since the quarrel
Will bear no color for the thing he is,
Fashion it thus: that what he is, augmented,
Would run to these and these extremities.
And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg,
Which, hatched, would, as his kind, grow
mischievous,
And kill him in the shell.
Good lord man

I listened to what Trump said and then watched what his supporters did. They did what he asked, they marched directly to the capitol building. No, he did not explicitly tell them to storm the building but at that moment I texted my brother and typed; Oh boy, this isn’t going to be good. The next several hours were one of the the most horrific moments in our countries democracy.

If your view of what happened was that much different then I don’t know what to tell you and I guess we will have to respectfully disagree.

If you listened to what he said then you know he told the crowd to march PEACEFULLY to the capitol and encouraged them to stay measured. Then of course they were quite literally ushered in by security guards… All of this is on video

Then there were months of three ring circuses and dog and pony show trials to create ridiculous narratives and talking points to sway public opinion. And it worked.

Are you sure you are not falling victim to the deliberate and professionally constructed narrative?

From CNN:
Jan. 6 committee plans to use key video evidence and hire a writer to build a compelling narrative for the public

So he never personally called it a Muslim ban, it was just the media?

Go read the transcript from Jan.6th and then watch the video again, I just did. Not once was the word PEACEFULLY ever used. You have chosen to believe what you want and that is your right but it is irresponsible for you to be peddling opinions like this as facts.

Pro tip: Don’t use 20 second videos from MSNBC or the young Turks to develop your opinions

I don't care 🤷
I don't either as far as voting against Trump & the party of Trump, but we should care This house of cards has built. The only solutions I can think of are 1. Massive inflation with increased debt via fed reserve buying the Treasury offerings. Are foreign governments going to continue to buy US debt at the same participation rate under the thumb of US political posturing and threat of sanctions unless in their best interest or necessary for global trade. There is just no end to the opposing variables that diminish the prospects for servicing the debt in the future with the current positions of the Party of Trump and the Democratic party. To

Unfortunately we only have 2 choices.

If my only choice was Trump or Putin, I would have to write in or not vote.

I believe we should care about why a booming economy does not facilitate a balanced budget and how vulnerable we are to how that debt can affect our lives and well being

But again, not even a factor in the choices we currently have.

Trust me…it is obvious I care more about facts than you because I admittedly didn’t know if Trump used the word peacefully or not after reading your post. For a split second I was willing to take your word for it, shame on me. While many accusations regarding Trump are blatantly false, it is falsehoods like you are proposing that is just as damaging as the crazy left-wingers.

I have no expectations that you will take the time but I have linked the full video and corresponding transcript from January 6th. If you can point me to the place where Trump states he wants a peaceful march to the Capitol, I will give you a sincere apology.

And your Pro Tip…hilarious.

This is copied and pasted out of the AP's link to the full transcript, which is in the link you provided:
I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.

I've responded to this before and don't feel like typing it out so I'm linking it, but it doesn't matter what he said for plausible denibility, he proved he didn't mean it.

As a conservative who has viewed Trump as unfit to be POTUS in this and the past 2 elections, it is encouraging to see the cross overs.

Can we get a conservative party back that supports any of the following: the constitution, rule of law, democracy, country above party and self interest.

Meh...it's not exactly a full-throated admonishment to be peaceful on Trump's part, but I do still see the whole J6 narrative as way overblown. It was as shameful scene that capped off a shameful year of violent insurrection breaking out all across America, culminating in one final ridiculous act at the Capital on Jan 6th. I only wish they would have pursued the summer insurrectionists at least half as hard and half as publicly as the J6'ers. Both were egregious assaults on America, and both should have been very publicly punished.

Either way, no need to apologize to me. I appreciate anytime we can talk without sophomoric threats and name calling.

So you’re ok with an open border, more millions of migrants allowed in. Non citizens allowed to vote, being put up in hotels, free health care, free phones, debit cards. Trans, woke, blm, crt, dei. Out of control government spending. Insecure elections. Censorship. Liberal judges appointed to the Supreme Court. Disastrous foreign policy. Green deal energy policy. Crime on the rise. Then go ahead and vote for KH.

I'm with you. Get me one of those at the top of either ticket and I'm all over it. Until then, I'm going with what I see is the lesser of two evils and it is not even close. The Dems will blindly sacrifice all of what makes America great at the altar of their Climate God and continue to let fentanyl and child sex traffickers operate with impunity across our boarders if it gets them more votes. They, including Bush before them, have driven American manufacturing to its lowest ebb since the end of WWII...to the point that we are no longer the leader in Manufacuring.

I respect Latin American laborers and welcome as many of them as our labor force can handle--but that is for America and America alone to control.

While humans do exert a warming influence on the climate, we have no idea how much, and we don't even know if it is a net positive or a net negative. What we do know is that attempting to drive toward net-zero emissions is not just suicide, it is absolutely unachievable.

I am anti-tariff, but if we could just get behind a national policy of demanding EVEN trade among trading partners, even at the threat of tariffs we would like not actually have to resort to them. If we can do this while also using the bully pulpit to shame American manufacturers into repatriating much of our lost industry, then we can unlock economic growth the likes of which we have never seen in modern history.

There has been only one person to have demonstrated they have the balls to take these issues on and WIN!

That person is Donald J. Trump and it isn't even close.

At the end of the day it's pretty simple. You'll walk to that booth and only have two options.

The vast majority of people won't admit who they're voting for. They don't have to. But you got 2 choices.

You'll do what you think is best.

So you cant/wont answer the question
You have changed the subject, I'm not interested in going down your trail.

The argument was that there may have been real reasons to ban people from certain countries, but that by his messaging, he ruined any chance of actual leadership. And made it into something that alienated a lot of people in his own nation. Made it so that people, once again, had to come back behind him and explain what he "really meant" and that he's not actually this or that.

Just say his messaging was dogsh!t man. Which actually matters when leading through a national tragedy.

You can still think his policies, etc are better than the alternative. You can think that Kamala/Dems do it as much or more.

But it is ok to say that criticism is warranted. I just can't with you guys that take up for literally everything he does.

@jroller perhaps your mind is already made up, and you may well have already voted...but here is one last thing to consider:

TODAY could be the last day a child sex slave is trafficked across our southern border. TODAY could be the last day a batch of fentanyl is trafficked across out southern board. If the left and the right truly wanted this to end, we could gain control of the southern border tomorrow. But both of those parties (aka, the uniparty) have/has let us down. There is only one person that has made it his personal mission and has largely based three campaigns in a row on ending this scourge on humanity. If there is ever one issue alone to vote on, this is it for me.

This is not about being anti-immigrant--at least not for me. I am happy to welcome anyone who wants to come to America in an effort to make a better life. I am happy to import all the foreign labor our economy needs. When our American youth have been made too comfortable in their circumstances to be compelled to pursue meaningful work, finding themselves outworked by foreign labor is a just outcome.

Trump is an imperfect man, an immoral man; but imperfect and immoral people can be used for good.
