Why would this change anything about my stance? This particular case (which again is not the one I posted this thread about) isn’t about this one guy - its about due process, its about rule of law, its about checks and balances. The federal government should not be able to move people into foreign prisons without due process (hell even with due process this is highly questionable). The executive branch should not be able to just outright ignore the supreme court when it rules that person must be returned.
How can you not understand what’s happening? The executive branch of our government is effectively arguing that they can put a person on an airplane - for any reason - fly them into the custody of a foreign government where US courts don’t have jurisdiction, and then even when they openly admit that they made a mistake, they can just say “oops” and refuse to do anything about it. How do you not see how absolutely terrifying that should be for every single person within these borders? The President has repeatedly said he’d like to start including American citizens on these flights.
This is authoritarianism at your door step and you’re too stupid to see it for what it is.
