So I met Herschel last night

i get that, but you can use both scientific approaches to answer certain questions, specifically as it relates to things involving ancient earth. geologists can study the oldest rocks on earth for evidence of the first life, but they can also go to the lab and recreate the conditions of early earth to test predictions of hypothesis about events billions of years ago.

edit: and i agree with your last sentence. i know plenty of creationists that don't believe the earth is 7k years old
A critical assumption used in carbon-14 dating has to do with the ratio. It is assumed that the ratio of 14C to 12C in the atmosphere has always been the same as it is today (1 to 1 trillion). Historical science needs faith.

Here are some of the scientists who believe young earth is plausible. Would these scientists who have PHD's not be suitable to run for public office?

Interesting that the state of GA will support a candidate that has multiple personality disorder or disassociative identity disorder.

Good luck with that.
We're (Georgia) considered a purple state now, so that means we support all. These days we seem to be going to the highest bidder. Lots of out of state dollars being thrown this way.

Austin 3:16?

for some reason i don't trust him to know about the earth's age. he can drink the shit out of some beer though.

to play devil's advocate, i don't believe anyone who fails to recognize even basic science (for instance the earth being much older than 7k years old) should hold public office. it's one of those things that isn't a "belief" it's a provable fact.
You know, you'd start to believe arguments like yours would hold water.. and then many of those same folks would go and say that men can become women and win Natties as such. Suddenly, proven biological facts just don't seem to matter any longer

@yoshi121374 Speak to those contradictions. Prove your argument.

Just a quick Google search, but there are quite a few instances where different books describe the same events differently.

Again, I don't think it matters much since I'm not a Bible literalist. Many people seem to have no understanding of how the Bible was put together, the different translations and versions etc. To me it's a book written by men who were inspired by God. Just like all men they were fallible, sinful, had biases, etc.

To your first point different books describe the same events differently because they are written by different people with different perspectives. If they were all the same it would be a better argument for fallibility.

You can also find plenty of support for bible inerrancy, infallibility, and reliability on the internet as well. Google might not take you there directly, but it's there.

What skill set does it take to being a politician? A legal degree? 30 years working for the government? Foreign contacts? Sucking Willie Browns hog?

The original founders intended elected officials to be everyday people , serve a couple of terms, then go back to your normal life. Not spend 50 years in Washington.
I would suggest a man like Raphael Warnock is your best example of a non-politician who became a public servant. Herschel Walker is even unwilling to debate Warnock. Why? Because he can’t talk about national policies. Literally incapable of doing so. Guys like he and Tommy Tuberville are the worst examples of electing people to office from the “outside.” They are not what the Founding Fathers had in mind as elected leaders.

Walker hasn't even won the primary, why would he debate Warnock at this point.

But carry one with your narrative. It's par for the course for you

Not when candidates continuously make their religious beliefs part of their campaign and when they make it clear that their religious beliefs will guide their decision making if elected.
Yah the horrible beliefs we Christians have: don’t lie, don’t steal, don’t cheat on your wife, love your neighbor as yourself. Why would we want anyone in power over us with high moral standards, I mean how’s stupid is that when we can have a family in The the White House that pimps themselves out all over the world influence peddling?

Obviously any religious person is dangerous in public office (whatever the religion). Organized religion is fake- a sham- and arguably the biggest problem in the world today. Very detrimental to the improvement of human society. It’s my biggest problem with politics quite frankly. No coincidence that the happiest countries in the world are also the least religious.

If those were your true beliefs you wouldn't be a Trump supporter. But it makes sense if you worship Republican Jesus instead of the real one.

Russia and China Communism no thanks.
Northern European Socialism no thanks.

Born irrevocably sick, commanded to be well upon pain of eternal damnation. There is no righteousness in that

I agree with the last line, but Walker is an early earth guy. He has stated that.

I am a Christian and believe in the idea of intelligent design. However, much like as spelled out in the Scopes monkey trial, I don't believe it has to be literal to be true. Plenty of evidence supports that the world is older than 7000 years.

The Bible literalists are just frankly ignorant. The inerrant word statement is laughable when there are contradictions in the Bible.
Do you have a reason to believe in intelligent design beyond wanting to maintain both your religious beliefs and the legitimacy of scientific reasoning?

You have to have faith no matter which route you choose. Evolution from a big bang goes against the first law of thermodynamics(Scientific Law): that something can come from nothing. Unless this is an open system and there was something there previous.

The faith part is still needed. I think there is much less faith required to believe in intelligent design.

I believe that this creation is a masterpiece, and the creator deserves to be worshiped over the creator.

Most Atheists choose to not to believe in God because of something that happened to them(emotional) not because of reason or logic. They want an excuse to worship creation (themselves) instead of the Creator (God).

Back on Herschel Walker... So he apparently has been lying for years and claiming he was Valedictorian of his High School Class. graduated in the top 1% of his class, and received a degree from UGA. Apparently none of that is true.

Your argument is binary and incredibly weak. You are assuming that the only choices are organized religion and atheism. What about the 3rd choice (and the most likely)? That is there is some sort of force out there (God or whatever) but we have no idea what it is?

Christianity is pretty easily disproven at this point (as are the other major religions) and why can’t all of us just agree that we don’t know the answer? No one does. That’s my problem- people that definitely believe that they are correct about something that no one has any idea about.

For your 1st paragraph: your "3rd choice" is the only logical one if you want to hold to scientific law and a big bang evolutionary theory or a "force out there, God or whatever" caused something out of nothing. Although that would be called intelligent design. It's just theistic evolution and not creationism. Still, no matter what, faith will come into play somewhere in your belief system.

As for the second paragraph, you can believe that Christianity has been proven false if you want, but that's an excuse to live for whatever. We all worship something, whether it's yourself, family, money, education, work, Jesus, Alah, or whatever. But the truth is that there is a right answer our there. To chose to to have any belief is pretty radical and not rational.

Pascal’s wager, practical argument for belief in God formulated by French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal. Christian religion is rational. He argued that people can choose to believe in God or can choose to not believe in God, and that God either exists or he does not. Under these conditions, if a person believes in the Christian God and this God actually exists, they gain infinite happiness(eternal life) if a person does not believe in the Christian God and God exists, they receive infinite suffering(Hell). On the other hand, if a person believes in the Christian God and God does not exist, then they receive some finite disadvantages from a life of Christian living; and if a person does not believe in this God and God does not exist, then they receive some finite pleasure from a life lived unhindered by Christian morality. As Pascal states, “Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation that He (God) is.”

Kinda feel like if you believe in the Christian god strictly because you want to not go to hell and not because you actually believe in the faith and love JC then if there is a judgement day that will be held against you

I have no rationale for that beyond it kinda makes sense in my warped brain

Faith. Honestly, I want to believe that there is a purpose.
Have you considered just straight empathy? Thats why Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden of eden isn't it? They ate the fruit of knowledge and learned.

I do actually agree with you. Pascal's wager is simple philosophical reasoning to believe in God over not.
With that said, the Bible says that simpley believing in God is not enough. James 2:19 "even the Demons believe and shudder.." The Bible teaches that one should actively believe and be willing to surrender to Christ as Lord to be called a Christian and inherit eternal life.

every major religion in the world is founded on those same principles. just an fyi.

also, that last sentence? are you for real? you don't think the trumps did that?
