The Evangelicals absolutely sold their soul, as well as their ability to be a moral compass for anyone. It's truly sad, particularly as someone with a long family history in Church Ministry like me.

Ive heard it argued, prior to trumps election, that the GOP strategists never actually wanted to overturn Roe. It was too important a wedge issue to lose.

It is an interesting flip politically, that Republicans have gone from playing offense for 50 years on the issue to playing defense now. And vise-versa for the Dems. I think both are discovering that it’s much easier to play offense on a combative issue.

It seems there’s been an almost immediate switch in voters, with Dem voters heavily galvanized by the issue and conservative voters now shrugging their shoulders on it a bit with a mission accomplished attitude. This is leaving right wing politicians and special interest groups needing to find another boogeyman issue to overdrive voter participation, and they’ve seemed to go back to old school gay bashing as a result.

To the political scientists credit, it was a radio interview, he predicted the dem galvanizing and stated the GOP establishment was well aware of the potential and wanted to keep it just as a wedge issue because of its power.

The manufacturing of outrage is now happening with astro trurf issues like critical race theory and drag shows. Grievance is the name of the game.

If I was the devil:

I would put my whole support behind some guy that's been a sleazy businessman his whole life... lies about everything and will absolutely throw anyone and everyone under the bus for his own gain.
THEN I'd take every opportunity to disparage any and everyone who disagrees with him all while pretending to be a real American trying to save everyone. I'd use all the buzz words like Socialist, Communist, Deep State, Satanist, or whatever, with no proof

Absolutely. Trump is a really smart guy and certainly a genius at manipulating people and the system. Like many folks that are really smart, he does think that he's smarter than he is (ie always the smartest guy in the room). and AGAIN like many intelligent people he makes the mistake of thinking that because he IS smart, that means others are dumb.

That last explains why a guy who's obviously intelligent says things that even a normal person knows is total BS and seems surprised when folks call out said BS.

This is also a pretty telltale sign of narcissistic personality disorder, which I think Trump very likely has. Big egos are certainly not lacking among politicians in general, but Trump’s goes that extra mile and there are signs that he has difficulty with empathy as well.

I couldn't agree more. IMHO the narcissistic part of Trump explains him completely. I've never thought he was particularly evil per say or racist or any of the other things people say about him. Trump is about Trump. Period. Good, Evil, Truth, Lies, etc don't mean a single thing and don't even enter into Trump's calculations. It's all about Trump. Nothing else matters.
