The United States Canal - We Are So Back

I tend to agree here. I get that Panama didn't like the US controlling a strip of land that divided the country, but I was a kid back in the late 70s and remember everyone I knew thinking this was a pretty damn stupid idea. However, 2/3rds of the Senate agreed and we basically gave it way.

FYI, this is just another example of Trump running his mouth. There's NO CHANCE we invade Panama and take the canal back, NONE. There's no chance that we buy Greenland. There's no chance Canada becomes the 51st state.

No I'm not 100% sure (are you? This is Trump.) But 99% sure that this is just Trump running off at the mouth. Picture your drunk uncle at a family BBQ... only with an army and nuclear weapons. The Greenland and Canada parts, yep 100%
Or … running his mouth being an antagonist to get concessions or ownership of something he actually wants. Seen this tactic hundreds of times in business and in the workplace.

… of course … I wouldn’t rule out taking the Canal back by force.

Absolutely... That's what Trump does. He runs his mouth. Sometimes he has a reason for it (I suspect he does with Panama), sometimes he doesn't (Arnold Palmer's penis size).

When we gave up the canal zone the Army also lost it's Jungle Operations Training Center when we turned over Ft. Sherman. It was definitely an eye-opener operating in that humid, wet, dark, triple-canopy jungle. They finally stood a jungle school in Hawaii a few years back but it's not the same.
