Trump Executive Order on Election Security

Why do you oppose this? If the majority want this what’s the problem? Even Ice says it’s been debated into oblivion over the last 20 years. This isn’t new. Why is there such a visceral reaction to this? Bc it’s Trump doing it via EO? Clearly citizens are fed up with the current situation. These are normal laws that nearly every country in the world abides by. This isn’t even a remotely radical viewpoint or opinion. It’s literally mainstream.

Edit: specifically referring to 81% in favor of voter ID.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying/asking. There was nothing in your attachment that was controversial. Trump's EO was different than the issues in the Pew poll. I'm tapping out for tonight but if you can be more specific, I'll follow-up tomorrow, though @iceheart08 would be better equipped to give a more detailed explanation.

That’s what I’m asking. Can you tell me how needing your ID to vote makes it harder for US citizens to vote. If they’re voting they’re 18, if they’re 18 they’ve been in school or work or on SS or drive, if any of those are true they would have ID for that anyway. Is it the inconvenience of having to carry your ID into the voting place?

It’s not the ID…it’s having to provide proof of citizenship. An extra step that isn’t necessary.

If my mom had to do this, she doesn’t have a valid passport and also probably doesn’t have her birth certificate any longer. Making her get these things would probably make her not vote…

We need to make it easier for U.S. citizens to vote so their voices are heard.

All he does is win so what makes him a POS?
Doesn't seem like he's doing a lot of winning these days.

I can see why you would like him though Tinkerbell. All he cares about is his side winning (he makes lots of money from it), just like you from Soros.

He's a POS because he gains from trying to tear this country down, and you are firmly on his side.

You're about what supports your liberal/progressive agenda.

This is going to be glorious!

I don't have a passport but I am an American citizen. I choose not to go overseas because I have been there already at gov't expense. I've missed out on many things because of the life I chose. Births, Graduations, Marriages, Anniversaries.

Why would she not have her birth certificate? If the birth certificate was lost there are ways to get another one.

Honest question.

ITS HAPPENING!!!

BREAKING: President Trump says Americans will see how the 2020 election was ‘rigged’ when he declassifies all the documents from the ‘Trump-Russia collusion hoax.’

“That was an election that I won. I won by a lot. You’re going to find that out. The documents are there. The numbers are there. We won that by a lot. We won three elections, and we did very well in the second one.”

Ridiculous. If you were born here all they have to do is call the hospital they were born in. I’ve had to do that for myself and my children, might take 15 minutes of time and 10$. They’ll give you a BC. It’s incredible to me that you literally typed that having to “provide proof of citizenship” is a radical idea to vote in a country’s elections. lol at you guys. It’s not even difficult. I had not updated my voter registration in 2024 so when I went to vote they say “you’re not on the roll”. Guess what they did, they gave me a paper provisional ballot that allowed me to vote. If I had not had an ID they would have rightfully told me to kick rocks. Get outta here with the excuses. ID is not racist or sexist or anything else. Like I asked ice and never got an answer. This 10% isn’t off the grid with no access to anything. Are any of them on government assistance? Doesn’t that require citizenship and an ID?

A few things here:

I don’t think they are suggesting proof of citizenship every time you vote. It should be a one time thing when you register to vote, which most people do at 18. Perhaps a one time verification for others.

It’s very easy to get a birth certificate if you don’t have one. I’ve done this to have extra copies for my kids and specifically used it when we had to mail birth certificates for their passports. Here’s the link in SC: https://dph.sc.gov/public/vital-records/birth-certificates

You either have to be a citizen or have a certain work permit to get a social security number. If the government wasn’t so shitty at most things, they could modernize their IT and we could do a very simple lookup by SSN and it could tell us whether or not the person is a citizen. That would make for a VERY simple verification - a super easy SSN lookup.

We really have to stop with the extremely low expectations for people. This stuff isn’t hard.

My idea is to put some extra money towards the census and have them work to get all citizens legally allowed to vote any documents you want to then require to vote, etc.

Idk if moneys the answer here. As ice pointed out it’s been going on for decades and money hasn’t fixed it yet. Need to just make it law, then people and their politicians will figure out how to get ID, if that’s even the real issue. We are truly making a mountain out of a mole hill here. You literally need an ID for most meaningful and some trivial things we do here. It shouldn’t be that difficult. No ID, no benefit from government (following the premise these are poor folks). You don’t think that would motivate people?

If we want to throw money at it, incentivize the people with no ID to comply. Pay them 100$ for getting an ID. Incentivize the people, not the bureaucrats.
