We’re one day away from the chaos of the early signing period, but perhaps two days tops from clarity for Clemson’s top offensive line target.

Here we are on Tuesday, still awaiting an announcement from Tampa (Fla.) Plant four-star interior lineman Will Putnam.

Putnam (6-4, 285), ranked No. 106 nationally by Rivals.com, is set to choose between Clemson, Florida State and Auburn.

We’ve been on announcement watch daily for almost a week, while Putnam began projecting a decision soon shortly after his final official visit to Clemson a full month ago.

On Sunday, we brought to light that our feedback pointed more toward FSU as the probable choice – indicating that we didn’t know it to be a done deal, but that was the sense as to the direction our contacts felt Putnam was leaning. Furthermore, Warchant.com recruiting analyst Michael Langston reported that FSU believed it had at least a slight advantage.

After talking with a source late last night, we can tell you that Putnam did have communication with Clemson on Monday and conveyed that a decision has yet to be made.

Putnam has planned to formally sign Thursday, but only after rendering an announcement in advance.

**** The recruitments for two notable in-state offensive linemen will come to a head Wednesday, though.

Greenville (S.C.) tackle Jimmy Fritzsche is fresh off a Nebraska official visit that proceeded Thursday’s unofficial visit to Clemson – at which time the Tigers extended their offer.

Fritzsche (6-6, 255) has subsequently decided to sign this Wednesday, which kept the Cornhuskers a viable option – Nebraska wanted him to sign early or else it would move on.

We characterized Clemson as holding the cards when we broke the news of his visit last week, and based on our intel late Monday night we would simply say that nothing has changed the Tigers’ standing since.

**** Meanwhile, Hanahan (S.C.) tackle offer Cooper Dawson is set to disclose his decision Wednesday morning.

As we’ve reported, we expect Dawson (6-4, 250) to pursue the opportunity to play defensive end at either UCF or Syracuse.
