Putin thought this would be over in a matter of weeks. He thought dropping his elite Spetsnaz units behind enemy lines in Kiev along with the initial onslaught would lead to a quick and decisive victory. He didn't count on his special forces being wiped out early on, Ukraine resisting as strongly as they did or the impact of intelligence and elevated weaponry being supplied primarily by the US.
You are right, Putin didn't go on the offensive to get exposed. But he was wrong and he did. And now he's panicking and moving forward with mass mobilization. This is compounding the horrible humanitarian situation that exists in both Ukraine (mass civilian deaths, torture, rape) and now Russia (tens of thousands of troop deaths, hundreds of thousands of fathers being ripped from their homes to be used as cannon fodder).
It's a horrible situation and I'm glad the USA can confront autocratic evil in the world.

Tell this information to the Russian military blogger and telegram groups, the ultra nationalists who were blasting Putin so hard he had to move to declare a draft for 300k citizens (that rumors are that they are targeting 1 million) for conscription. Look--Russia has a TON of kit and a TON of artillery. But remember that most of it has been sitting for 40 years not taken care of in the open air in bases in harsh climates. They have blown through their best missiles (without much western tech and chips to replenish quickly) and have lost major navel pieces and lots of their best jets and helicopters. Their infantry is garbage so they have just sat back and bombed places to rubble. They will continue to do that and won't run out of artillery for forever. But they have lost a ton of equipment--and this is all open source documented evidence. Their T80s are almost gone. T90's barely ever existed except for show. The refurbished T-72s from 2016 and 2010 have taken the bulk of the damage and are very susceptible to javelins. When you are brining in T62's from the late 60's and 70's then you are in trouble.
Putin had bribed tons of Ukrainian leaders and thought they would roll over.
Putin wouldn't have done conscription if things were going well. Bottom-line. If he loses Kherson then you need to come on here and eat all the crow.

Well for one thing, if he is Tucker's muse on foreign policy, you should already be skeptical considering Tucker's pro-Putin, pro-authoritarian(see Orban) bent. He is also a far right-wing conspiracy theorist who has openly advocated for Civil War. Trump tried hard to find a role for him based on his Fox interviews and many believe he's angling for the Secretary of Defense position if Trump gets re-elected. He's likely in someone's pocket, but even if he's not, you have to question why he's such an extreme outlier on foreign policy. There are plenty of other sources out there besides GWP if you really want to dig into his background.
