Voronavirus Death Rate in US continues to climb

Future health care costs continue to fall

It is sad...God be with those families...

But let’s also be real here...most of the deaths are people that are already on their last legs. Call me cold if you want, but death is part of life...

We should be thankful this thing is falling far beyond expectations really...

Buddy, I don’t know you, but I’ve seen enough of your posts the past few weeks to advise you that you need Jesus. Whatever you’re doing tomorrow, make it a priority to watch a church service.

Don’t worry pal...I’m going to the sunrise service at 7am...& then I’m watching the online service at 11...just so you know.

I have a heart...I have compassion....but I’m also a realist & I don’t sugarcoat everything just to avoid offending someone. Death is a part of life...it just is. Sorry...not sorry.

Do you realize an average of almost 7,000 people die each day in America? I guess it’s only sad if it’s a Covid death though...smh...death isn’t pleasant but it’s only truly sad if the person dying dies without Jesus. That’s the part I get sad about.

This whole thing sucks. Best wishes to all.

Roughly 8000 people die a day in our country. I wonder what the daily rate is with the Covid impact?

CDC: 80,000 people died of flu last winter in U.S., highest death toll in 40 years. Yes the Coronavirus is bad. but the flu last year will likely kill around the same amount as the Coronavirus, and I imagine those 80,000 (+) who died from the flu last year were likely elderly and/or had health issues already.

Yes the Coronavirus is scary, as there is currently no vaccine. But for God sake, let's keep this in perspective, stop sounding like the "we're all going to die" death mongers of CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS!!!

He doesn't need Jesus. He needs my dad to beat the shit out of him until he can't sit down for a week. That would do it...

So i take it you are a strong pro choice advocate then?

Latest estimates are around 60-70k but this is with extreme social distancing. It is much more infectious.

The perspective is just fine.

I don't mean this to sound at all flippant, but a percentage of these deaths attributed to Covid were likely gonna happen pretty soon by something else. Cancer patients, etc often get taken out by some type of virus.

Now, I'm not suggesting we shouldn't care about this deal. I'm just saying that these death rates are skewed due to Covid getting the credit as opposed to the other "underlying disease".

Death Monger is a bit harsh. This is a very serious situation. Flu kills a lot. This will kill factors more if not contained. The IMHE model says if we treated it like flu (no social distancing, business as usual), the death count could be as high as 2 million people.

Let’s also keep in mind, some of these deaths are additive. People are still dying of flu and other ailments. Except with the added stress to the healthcare system, you’ll also see people start dying of what might have otherwise been serious, but treatable ailments.

We are doing what we need to do to keep ourselves, our families and our neighbors alive. We should continue to see this through (which, the IMHE model puts at minimum June 1)

Some of the country, yes. Some of the country. Absolutely not.

Thats not really true. The coronavirus may have sligthly fewer deaths than the flu but we also dont go into nationwide shutdown for the flu. If we did nothing, the numbers would be way higher than the flu. Likely a million people would die from this virus in the US if we did not mitigate

I question this. If the number of people infected by the Coronavirus without symptoms or mild symptoms could be added to the confirmed number, the mortality rate would be less than .1% most likely. Hate to beat a dead horse but the article by some Stanford guys in the WSJ uses some data to come up with a number much lower than the .1% flu number. I’m hoping they are right.

Wrong.

Adults dying (mostly elderly with underlying conditions) is a far cry from the murder of innocent babies in the womb...

Not even remotely the same.

The mental gymnastics you use to marginalize and diminish the worth of humans dying to covid is staggering.

I don't know why this is the pedastal you are choosing to stand on, but it's despicable and ignorant.

I've actually liked some of your posts about Clemson football, and I love that football can bring people together as fans, even with vastly different beliefs than each other.

But you are something else. I'm putting you on ignore, and others should do the same.

Honestly the most shocking thing about this post is that you've liked some of jimbob's posts in the past.

It's nice to see a medical professional call out the stupidity.

I really thought we were done with people comparing this to seasonal flu. Please stop, it is not. Seasonal flu doesn’t cause hospitals to overrun, navy hospital ships to be sent to NYC and field hospitals to be set up in Central Park. Seasonal flu doesn’t cause doctors to have to decide which patients are more deserving to get a ventilator or ICU level of care when resources are overrun. Seasonal flu doesn’t sicken large parts of healthcare system taking care of patients and kill hundreds of doctors and nurses. Seasonal flu doesn’t put relatively healthy 30-50 year olds in ICU on ventilators. We are starting to flatten the curve due to social distancing and if we hadn't things would be drastically worse at this point. Things will get better and I think our economy will be up and running by end of May beginning of June but please stop posting misinformation if you don’t know what your discussing.

Dude...I don’t wanna see anyone die. Who does?? But it’s part of life...it just is. I mean, hundreds (sometimes thousands) die in car wrecks everyday. Should we outlaw cars? Should we shutdown the roads??
Some of y’all act like this is the Black Plague...it isn’t. It never was gonna be. It’s a virus. Unfortunately, these things affect the elderly & vulnerable the most. It’s nothing new. It’s the way it has always been. Flu, pneumonia, etc....they are always the most dangerous to the elderly & compromised. I don’t why that’s so hard for some of y’all to understand?? It’s just the way it is. Don’t get mad at me! Take it up with the Good Lord above! Ain’t none of us promised tomorrow...so you gotta be ready today...

Oh, just a tip...the ignore button is for pansies man...

What % is most? And how much longer did the average casualty have to live without the corona virus?

3.89% at this time. I look at this daily and close to 2000 people a day now are falling victim to this virus. So sad. Stay safe and be smart my fellow Tiger fans!
Thats not true. No matter how you look at it.

It is actually slowing down. If you’re talking about the mortality rate it will be no where near 3.89 it will me much closer to 1. BUT trying to look at mortality rate right now is a fools exercise.

“Importantly, in emerging viral infection outbreaks the case-fatality ratio is often overestimated in the early stages because case detection is highly biased towards the more severe cases.

As further data on the spectrum of mild or asymptomatic infection becomes available, one case of which was documented by Chan and colleagues, the case-fatality ratio is likely to decrease.”

I certainly hope the case fatality ratio decreases. What I posted was fact in the US at the moment it was posted. It has been rising every day for the past few weeks.

Or .... To turn your statistic around ... 96% cure rate, with the fatalities attributed in the vast majority to those over 55 with underlying conditions.

I'm not minimizing the deaths of this over the age of 55, but a wise man once said, "ask not for whom the bell tolls."

The cure rate for the majority of the population is fantastic! Also, think about this, as a result of what we're doing with social distancing, etc. The flu season will be mitigated to some extent as well ... meaning that same at risk population is being distanced from the flu that would possibly take their lives as well.

Again, not minimizing the loss of life, but we could do one hell of a lot worse than a virus with a cure rate of roughly 99% for people under 60. Keep some perspective.

Oh. So you get to decide who deserves to live and die?

I have three stories: anecdotal but still
1) friend’s daughter had to take a 50% pay cut as a nurse in private practice because patients are scared to come in
2) friend in NJ went into hospital with diverticulitis. Incredible pain, didn’t see a doctor for over 12 hours. Finally his personal doctor came in to get him on IV antibiotics. The doctor told my friend that he was scared to go see his next patient because he had covid
3) my daughter is an anesthesiologist at Stanford. It is a huge hospital. They have about 20 Covid cases and only about 10 intubated. Several staff have the virus but they think all of those were contracted outside of work. She is working overtime
Things are different everywhere. It’s scary, but I think we have been doing it the right way. We really need to get the economy going, and the waste in the relief package makes me hate politicians more than before, which I would have thought impossible

This is going to sound a little morbid, but I’m excited to see the results from the Navy ship that got infected. We had the princess ship that had mostly older people and the death rate seemed bad, but due to age range it wasn’t that surprising, nor as bad as any of the current rates suggest at 0.5%. Plus none of the people had any treatments. Now we have a ship of younger healthier patients to round out the princess ship and we have antibody test now to get a more accurate depiction of infection, asymptomatics, etc. I think the data from this ship may be a game changer. Especially for getting sports back up and going.

Every life is important.... shame on those saying an old person or a person with other conditions was going to die anyway. Those old people in their 60s and 70s and people with other conditions are people that have worked hard their entire life to retire. They have kids and grandkids that they love and want to see them grow. Some have served our country via military or other civil service. Shame..... shame on people saying they were going to die anyway. Its horrible to think that way.

Isn’t the Chinese Coronavirus now being listed as cause of death now for anyone that had it and died, regardless of whether it is the real cause of death?
