This isn't about the GOP or the Democrats. This is about our country and the reality is until we expect more of our leaders whether they be from blue or red, things will remain the same. Both parties are whole hog invested in not solving a damn thing. They want the problems so they can keep us tribalized and at each other's throats.

The upcoming Republican victory isn't going to fix all our problems. We've seen when they are in charge that we see the same kind of shenanigans just on different issues. Let's instead demand more from our leaders and force solutions to the problems we face.

We need a national energy policy that both parties sign on to and commit to.

We need a national immigration policy that both parties sign on to and commit to.

How are we going to handle the vast numbers of immigrants from Venezuela? They are coming from a non-functioning government and we should seriously consider how we manage their requests for asylum. They are legitimately fleeing a situation which has endangered their lives.

We need to agree on how we manage our foreign policy with respect to Russia, China, Iran and Israel.

It would be nice if we could agree to tax policy but I suspect that is next to impossible.

We should try to stop being defined by our differences and instead recognize we all live here and we need to try to start working together again. That starts with not demonizing one another at every turn. I know I struggle with that and so do many others here. Don't give in to it.

Just this week I was at a Town Hall meeting with politicians and I found that when I listened instead of talking I left the room a lot smarter and more educated

During that meeting I listened and I offered a suggestion to the complaints that talking to the person that had the power to do something about a problem was the first step

That did not go over well with that audience member

I even offered to call the person in office or get the staff members on the phone they were complaining about and put them on speaker phone so we could directly address the issue

Folks got upset with me

My take was I thought you wanted to solve the problem yet you refuse to discuss your issue with the person you are complaining about
