No.1 DE Eddrick Houston hopes to build stronger bonds on Georgia OV

BUFORD, Ga. - Forty-eight hours doesn't seem like such a long time. But official visits are different.
Prospects are around their potential future coaches for the vast majority of that time. They have fun, take pictures, and get a better idea of how they could fit in on the team.

Eddrick Houston is in the midst of a visit-filled June. The No. 1 defensive end in the 2024 class caught up with UGASports to preview his official visit to Georgia this weekend.
"I just want to build an even better relationship with the coaches," Houston said. "Three days seems like a short period of time, but it’s really a long time when you’re with them all the time. Just trying to build the relationship to see whether or not I want to call it home."
There aren't too many questions remaining for Houston about Georgia. He has been a Georgia priority for years and has visited campus numerous times.
One aspect Houston is focusing on is scheme fit. Two other top contenders, Clemson and Ohio State, run a 4-3 that would employ Houston as more of a hand in the dirt defensive end. Georgia's defense, meanwhile, is more of a 3-4.
"(Clemson) really being that 5 and the outside, being able to set the edge and still pass rush. That’s a thing I want to play," Houston said. "Whereas Georgia runs a 3-4, they would really have me at a 4i, taking on double teams just to free up the linebackers."
Houston's main relationships at Georgia have been with defensive line coach
Tray Scott and assistant defensive line coach
Dayton LeBlanc.
"They’re cool people off the field, but on the field they’ll coach you hard, trying to get you there," Houston said. "LeBlanc being the new one, just trying to get that knowledge from Coach Scott, which is going to be great. Maybe he can take it somewhere else like the old assistant, Coach Carson (Hall)."
Houston has a thorough process when evaluating his schools. After each visit, he lists out the pros and cons of each school.
That will continue through the rest of the month with official visits to Ohio State and Alabama. Houston then plans to commit on August 22, his 18th birthday.
