Dabo needs to think seriously about retiring

He's embarrassing himself and the Clemson football program. He doesn't know what he's doing half the time on the sideline (kicking the XP in the 4th quarter). He won't even attempt to raise NIL money. He's made lazy, idiotic coaching hires (Goodwin/Grisham/Spiller) that are killing us.

Most of all he refuses to play the game. Dabo is coaching and recruiting like it's still 2018....and that won't work anymore. I'm so appreciative of the championships he won here, but that doesn't give him the right to bury the program due to his arrogance. In his mind he's never wrong, and by the time he does change it will be too late.

He needs to retire. A lot of the posters on this board who think Dabo is bigger than Clemson will get butthurt about this, but those people are part of the problem. Dabo is not Clemson. Hes been a huge part of Clemson for a while now, but now Graham Neff needs to go find a coach who actually wants to run a college football program in the year 2024.

>1 Week of Prep Since 2021

12 games.
3-9 ATS.
5-7 straight up though we were favored in 11 of 12.
In losses, average score = 28 - 12

Extra time to prepare is supposed to be good for good coaches (Saban, Smart, Belichek). Extra time for us since 2021 has been a recipe for disaster.

Barrett Carter = Trenton Simpson

Both players showed exceptional promise as Sam linebackers early on. Both players were moved to Will linebacker due to the importance of the position in our defensive scheme. Both players’ impact depreciated quickly upon moving inside. Both players are day 2 draft picks based exclusively on measurables.

My question: why is Clemson conforming the players to the scheme and not the scheme to the players?

From 3 Yrs Ago - Are there philosophical differences with Dabo’s set of principles vs the state of college football that won’t mix well going forward?

*This has nothing to do with all of the incredible very recent success Dabo has had and is more of a forward looking indictment on the state of college football versus his own set of principles which he has shared many times. I’m also not saying he should be fired or shouldn’t have the right to stay on his own terms.*

But with the landscape changing so much in college football with the portal, NIL, no penalty for a one time transfer, mega conferences, CFP expansion, and an all around semi pro feel to it, I think a lot of this goes against what Dabo stands for and he has even said it himself. Could it be possible that despite all of his absolutely incredible accomplishments as the coach of Clemson, that he’s actually not the best person for the job of coaching Clemson going forward given this environment?

I think this is becoming more clear by the day. Not due to our record, but due to the fact we don’t seem to be adapting and there seems to be a stubbornness about not adapting due to philosophical differences between our coach and the overall semipro/free agency landscape of college football that has emerged.

It’s probably time to revisit Dabo’s record with and without Brent Venables.

The football program was so soft before he got here and since he left, we’re probably even softer than 2011. This team looks like peak Tommy Bowden. Score 40-50 on the awful teams and get completely rinsed by the 8+ win teams.

Physically, we didn’t belong on the field with Louisville.

Think about the lack of D1 coaching experience on the current staff.....its nuts!

If he replaces Goodwin, think about the folks Dabo has hired that had zero to very little D1 coaching experience just on the current roster.

Goodwin
Spiller
Richardson
Grisham
Conn

Throw in Hall and Streeter that were hired with no D1 coaching experience (OK I get Streeter seeing he was the OC at Richmond).

THAT IS INSANE!!!!! At once was a premier program where Dabo could have had anybody, we have that. Now, does it matter who the coach is when we cant bring in the best talent?

Edit: I get Elliot and Scott, but my point is this: why would you not hire the best and most proven coaches after you have won TWO national championships? When he hired TE and Scott, we had just beat USCjr for the first time in 5 years.

Wes Goodwin, worst hire of the Dabo era?

“The Tigers finished 77th nationally in pass defense, their lowest ranking in that statistic over the entire Dabo Swinney era.”

Larry went on to say the LBs weren’t very good at the point of attack and the DL wasn’t very disruptive. A complete disaster from a defense that Coach V left feeling that it would be the best in the country in 2022.

I feel like this defense should be talented enough to overcome bad coaching. But if you ask me, the Wes Goodwin hire kept us out of the Playoff last year. This year, could the stakes be higher?

It’s fairly easy to see ineptitude on the offensive end, and so Brandon Streeter gets the brunt of the complaints from last year. Those with a higher football IQ probably realized the Defense was the biggest disappointment. We had 2 1st rounders on the D line. 2 LBs talented enough to be named All American to begin this year, another that was drafted high by the Ravens despite not meeting expectations.

A freshman all American safety that all of sudden couldn’t play football and a young corner who our staff believes has 1st round talent.

I still can’t believe the keys were handed over to this guy. Which leads me to the question, is Wes Goodwin the worst hire of the Dabo era? And at what cost?
