Wes Goodwin, worst hire of the Dabo era?

“The Tigers finished 77th nationally in pass defense, their lowest ranking in that statistic over the entire Dabo Swinney era.”

Larry went on to say the LBs weren’t very good at the point of attack and the DL wasn’t very disruptive. A complete disaster from a defense that Coach V left feeling that it would be the best in the country in 2022.

I feel like this defense should be talented enough to overcome bad coaching. But if you ask me, the Wes Goodwin hire kept us out of the Playoff last year. This year, could the stakes be higher?

It’s fairly easy to see ineptitude on the offensive end, and so Brandon Streeter gets the brunt of the complaints from last year. Those with a higher football IQ probably realized the Defense was the biggest disappointment. We had 2 1st rounders on the D line. 2 LBs talented enough to be named All American to begin this year, another that was drafted high by the Ravens despite not meeting expectations.

A freshman all American safety that all of sudden couldn’t play football and a young corner who our staff believes has 1st round talent.

I still can’t believe the keys were handed over to this guy. Which leads me to the question, is Wes Goodwin the worst hire of the Dabo era? And at what cost?

Cutting fat around football office & AD a way to raise cash

Clemson needs more cash. In a very poor business strategy, they’ve added so many jobs to keep people hanging around who should be off the state payroll, and they’ve created new positions. You can look up their salaries in the state database. All that wasteful spending doesn’t make any sense in this new athletic era.

Big picture

Sitting and thinking big picture what's left to play for.
Its USC and that's it. Honestly I imagine the line will come out as us being an underdog.
No ACCCG, which I already took the weekend off of work, so I guess I can put myself back on the schedule.
No CFP. Duh.
Bowl games this year mean even less than before (how is that possible) because of the 12 team playoff and the opt outs will likely be higher than ever.

Instead we are now left to discuss off season changes while the season is still ongoing. Gives big ICK vibes.
This does make the ACC lawsuit more comical as FSU and Clemson arent showing a lot of VALUE at the moment.

VT road trip, parking, etc

Going to the game this weekend. For those that are going and have been to Blacksburg in the past, any suggestions of where to park? Ample public parking available? Also, is it best to tailgate or does there downtown area have some bars like Clemson does? Someone correct me if I’m wrong but based on the map it looks like Blacksburg is similar to Clemson in that it’s mostly a walkable campus/town in relation to the stadium.
Any tips/suggestions are appreciated! For anyone going, what’s your plans?

HOW TO KEEP TEAMS FROM STEALING OFFENSIVE SIGNALS.

1st Idea is have 20 or so plays on a long board going strait up and down have each play on there twice or even 3 times. You would need 50 different board or more. Tell the players what number to look at for that series. Also you could have the players move up or down by one number on each play. So play 1 would be at the top and play 20 would be at the bottom. Have the players look at the 1st play and last play every time so they could not tell which play they were looking at. You want the same play on there more then once so it will take them longer to figure out what number the players are using. You could also have play number list that is totally random on the inside of the players helmet at the top inside that only the player can see that you could change each drive.

2nd idea is be lined up and snap it within 3 seconds of the players getting the call. I don’t think the defensive would have time to to steal the signal then make the call to the defense.

3rd idea I think would have a better benefit then no huddle. Huddle as soon as you get the call break the huddle and line up and snap it at break neck speed.

Clock rules question for the board....

Ok, now I know none of this matters in the end but I was confused by the clock running on a couple of occasions Saturday night. Has there been a rule change that the clock doesn't stop when a player is out of bounds? I really noticed it twice in the game.

The first was when we were inside of two minutes before the half and Mafah went out of bounds, the clock kept running. I even went back and rewound the play to see if he was tackled and marked down before getting out of bounds but he was untouched and the clock didn't stop.

This then happened again in the second half, a Clemson player went out of bounds and then the clock kept running.

Was there a rule change I missed? I know they changed the rules for first down clock stoppage except in the last two minutes. But these were obvious out of bounds plays.

Cade and carrying out his fakes

Go back and look at film from last year and again this year.
Not great against Georgia but for games leading up to Louiville he at least handed off the ball and took annother step or 2. Saturday night he handed the ball off and stopped in his track and watched.
Just a little thing but if he can carry out a fake another spilt second it often freezes a linebacker, end or a tackle just enough to open up something. Fundamental stuff andeveryone doesnt always bite on a fake but if there is not one everyone goes to the ball.
