I’m sure there is something worse but the “qb is down where he starts the slide” is a dumb rule. It seems really subjective and can really get the qb killed. If you are down when your arm, knee, etc hits the ground, why are you down when you decide to give yourself up? Isn’t the slide an attempt to get down feet first so you don’t risk upper body or concussive injury to the qb? It seems like this rule would incentivize the qb to go head first to stick the ball out in 3rd down or other critical situations. And that seems to be the most common scenario when the qb feels like he’s scrambled enough for the first, gets down, only to get a terrible spot.
