⚖️ MURDAUGH MURDERS & TRIAL THREAD ⚖️

Who is the blonde chick on the defense team?

Standing to the left of the podium/right of the screen during the press conference of the defense team…..

Harpootlian just said they will be filing an appeal in 10 days.

notice in 10 days he said, then 30 to file and then that will take months I think I heard and that they'll take it all the way to Federal Supreme Court if needed

I sound ridiculous by respecting the systems we have? When the verdict came out I said justice was served. A jury of his peers found him guilty in just over an hour. They didn’t doubt. They were sure.

I also believe the death penalty should be something we use much more often than we do. The tax payer.good citizen should not have to pay for someone to live who takes the life of others willingly.

Neither of those two paragraphs have any weight or bearing with what I thought the case presented and how I would have acted as a juror. You have to be able to step outside of a little box and see the whole picture.
I see no lies. I respect and agree with this take.

He is standing strong and gonna fight hard against this botched crime scene bull shit argument all the way to supreme court

Watched the verdict live at a bar / restaurant in Hampton County and there were cheers when they said GUILTY. Had to be a big kick to the nuts for Griffin and Harpootlian to have the jury decide that quickly. I don't think they are bad lawyers as much as they took on a bad case. Like others have said, I think even his lawyers thought he did it by the end of the trial.
I wonder if Griffin’s tweet of that article criticizing the investigation, for which he was then reprimanded by the judge, was some attempt to get kicked off the case or have his role reduced. Don’t know if that’s even a thing, but Griffin was definitely becoming detached the last couple of weeks.

And that is precisely why this glorious thread will remain atop this board for the foreseeable future.

He was there but is that where others wanted him to be? I mean, his grandfather was dying so shouldn’t he come to be there with the family?

a question I have had as well. The lack of emotion, smug smiles throughout, and seemingly nothing today almost makes you think he knew something. I don't know but seems it

Judge Newman's son died in January. I cannot imagine that he is going to have any kind words for a family annihilator, Alex Murdaugh, this morning.

Here is a clip of Judge Newman at sentencing of the Uber driver murderer a few years ago. Perhaps a preview of today's sentencing, even.
I suspect he won't go easy on AM.
Consider me a fan of Judge Newman. He was tough, but fair, throughout the trial. Kept the proceedings moving along. And, contrary to the facts of this case, reflected positively on our state. I hope that he enjoys as many productive years on the bench.

Agree. I don’t mind him thanking the local, state, and federal agencies that participated. But he went over the top with sled. That wasn’t their A game by a long shot.

I wish he would spoken more the failures in the justice system that allowed AM, his accomplices, and even his children to believe they were above the law for so long and in the future actually follow through with ensuring that from top to bottom that our state will be fair to all citizens who come in contact with the justice system regardless of family connections or socioeconomic status.
Unfortunately, $$$ is always going to buy privilege. There is no way to keep out all bad actors out of any profession or group of people. It can be argued that many people's socioeconomic status is at least in part of their own choosing. Even so, socioeconomic status is far and away the most negative influencing factor that exits in almost any society.

but without that lifestyle and without his luxurious pill poppin life, is he himself? Can he deal with the demons without the opioids?

Maybe he can...
If something does happen to him, does his life insurance policy still pay out? I assume so unless (unless he instigated something in prison and dies as a result of that).

There were many people during this trial who spoke very fondly of Paul, It was a side of Paul that you have to assume was genuine and existed. To me it even sounded like Jim Griffen, Crosby, Ball etc. had a better friendship with Paul than they did with Alex.

Marian Procter was adamant that Paul was not who was portrayed in the media. It is hard to square that with what happened in the boat case and the other innuendo about Gloria and the Smith kid.

The Netflix Documentary is not favorable to Paul in the least and paints a picture of a monster. It is definitely hard to square all of those things.
Ted Bundy was reportedly well liked by most of the people he knew(that he did not kill).

Probably, but either way we are still paying for him to be alive until he does.

Consecutive life sentences is not what someone deserves for doing what was done.

Death, immediate death, is the only proper punishment.
So you've gone from, "There's not enough evidence to convict" to "Hang'm from the highest tree." ?

Prison is far worse than the death penalty.

Totally agree.

I mean, even the judge specifically mentioned that part today.

I don't plan on committing any double murders any time soon so its not a real issue for me. But its also a bit frightening from a privacy/big brother standpoint that your car can "testify" against you. At some point we have to be wary of being ruled by technology and devices.

Caught on video, thats your own dang problem!

I don't know how frightening that is, honestly.

I like the fact that if my car gets stolen I can easily find where it is. I also like the fact that I can monitor where my kids are.

I guess I should say there are plenty of positives. Just don't do something stupid, and the positives probably outweigh the negatives.

We've all known "that guy." The guy who is real nice. A good friend. Then he gets a few drinks in him and he's the biggest asshole in the world. Some people are mellow drunks. Some are happy drunks. Some are just jerks. My best friend from El Cid was/is that way. I steer clear of him when he's drinking.

Paul was probably that way.

I'd willing to bet that Alex was on drugs when the crime happen. I'm surprised not toxicology was done on him. Shame he wasn't taken in on day one. I'm betting Alex was a angry drunk as well.

Did alex call him to go home?

That I do not know. Just know he called him to tell him about the murders and he immediately dro ve home with his girlfriend

On the stand he said something along the lines of his dad sounding odd and asked if he was sitting down. Told him the news his brother and mom had been shot and they left immediately.

Said he walked in gave his dad a hug and that his dad was destroyed

I would genuinely like to know where Alex got his drugs. Need to really find out how he got them and try to follow the money.

Bill Gibbons, The Ledger Editor. That's who Martin wrote his letters to.

apparently from what I remember reading a long time ago was that the husband of first victim seemed to be the murderer and then more bodies started popping up

This does not make sense. You cannot say you have reasonable doubt, then argue that justice was served.

This is like saying you believe OJ did it, but arguing you also believe justice was served because a jury of his peers found him not guilty.

You are hedging your bets, in a way. You are also making the argument that in every single jury trial, justice is served. Which is obviously untrue.

How many are surprised by what seems to be the reaction of Maggie's family and even Alex's family. No one from Maggie's side spoke at the sentencing. Do they really think Alex didn't do it or just don't want to talk about it. Is Buster & John Marvin totally blinded to the evidence and believe Alex didn't do it or at least have strong suspicion about it
