I was thinking about the impact of the 2012 election recently. Romney and Obama were essentially tied when Hurricane Sandy hit just before the election, presumably hurting Romney's chances. If Romney had beaten Obama:

1) There is likely no President Trump or Biden, as Romney would have run for re-election in 2016. January 6th then wouldn't have happened.
2) Putin is likely weaker. How would Romney have handled the 2014 war in the Donbas? How would Romney have handled the Syrian gas attacks? Putin was emboldened by both events. Would there currently be war in the Ukraine?

If you could do over the 2012 election, would Trump supporters still vote for Romney, the only Republican Senator to vote for Trump's impeachment? Would Democrats still vote for Obama knowing it leads to Trump? Kinda crazy when you think about it...

Trump supporters in 2012 were probably too busy huffing glue and eating crayons to vote. It wasn't until they crawled out from the shadows in 2016 did they start voting.

Out of the shadows of the tea party. The tea party was the genesis of all this.
