The U.S. medical system is so jacked-up. When we were living in Mexico City, my son broke his wrist. We paid out-of-pocket with no insurance, and the total (with exam, x-rays, cast, and follow-up visits) was $400. For real.
Earlier this year, my six year old daughter fell and had to get a few stitches in her chin at the ER at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We owe over $1,500 for that, AFTER the insurance adjustment.
It's nuts.
