The POTUS is free to have advisors. We the people elected him, so if he can consult with whomever. Same difference as with his cabinet. None of those guys are elected. They are appointed and serve at the pleasure of the POTUS. Trump openly said that Elon would have a role in his administration during the campaign. The people knew that and must have liked that because they still elected him..

The unelected people who are a problem are those whose job it is to uphold the law or to advance the policies of duely elected officials but they don't. Instead, they inject their own personal biases and act in a contrary manner in secret, thereby acting contrary to the will of the people.
