Colin Kaepernick and Nike at it again

The problem I have with this is it's making me care about an issue that shouldn't even be an issue. People in this country have been babied so long, they have forgotten what "offensive" really is.

For example, you don't like the term NBA Team Owner? That's fine, I'm going to refer to them as NBA Team Masters from now on. You don't like the Betsy Ross flag on shoes? Well then, let's just put The Stars and Bars on the shoes and call it a day!

Be careful what you wish for.

I wish someone could deport people like Kapernick. He's a cancer to society.

There's a reason no owner in the NFL will touch this guy.

Ironically, a billion dollar company like Nike will move on his word. Unreal.
It's not ironic when you look at where they are located, as well as who makes up their market.

I dont care for CK, and I really think Nike made a bad decision to manufacture the shoes and then pull them over his concern.......but, the Arizona governor shouldn’t be punishing his own state by driving jobs away (if his actions end up causing Nike to not build the facility).
You have to stand for something. When does it stop? The lack of backbone in this country is part of it's problem.

I’d totally support reparations and whatever else for CK and likeminded people, but they would have to leave the country for good. Since this country has been so unfair to them. The white libs can follow. You know the ones that claimed they would leave the country if Trump won.

You do realize they were promised 40 acres and a mule by the government and leaving the country wasn't part of the deal. Just saying. Reparations wasn't an idea they just came up with. It is a real thing that was promised.

I wonder what all the triggered people in this thread care about that same 12yr old referenced earlier. What they do in terms of child labor, very much public knowledge, got less attention from the American masses than what Kap did. That's pathetic.

Children literally being abused, dieing in sweatshops and many in here didn't budge. Still proudly supporting such a horrible company.

Kap peacefully protests in a country that was built on peaceful protest and people stop wearing Nikes. I'm sure as far as Kap is concerned you all can go to hell. You can't get more disingenuous than that. At the very least just don't care about either situation but don't cry foul over Kap when morally you shouldn't have been wearing them in the first place.

Ship him out of a country for using a right that is the very backbone for change in our history. The "disrespect" of both the flag and our government is why women have the right to vote, black folks, and just about every law at the highest level started with someone directly pissing on the previous ideal of our country. Some even violent. This is a peaceful protest that he didn't even start publicizing. He was looking for no shine. Literally hiding until a camera found him.

Some of y'all don't even understand what being an American is. You are the ones that actually need to go to another country if you want to remove someone for going against the grain. The KKK literally wanted to kill fellow Americans. Going against actual amendments/laws of the land, ideals of this nation. Never heard that they should leave.

You are failing at Americaning. People died so Kap can do this stuff not so that he can't and had to tow the line.

CK has played the system to perfection and gotten sympathy he has never deserved. The liberal media forgets to mention when taking up his case that in his last two seasons at QB, he was 1-13 and 2-12 and that that kind of a record just might have something to do with no team wanting to pick up his multi million dollar contract.

I was promised a raise 5 years ago I didn't get...maybe you wanna send me some back pay?

Nike is very much a private company. Their stock is traded on a public exchange. But they are not owned by a government.

come on. You know better.

They aren't "private" in the terms of this conversation - meaning that one person (or family) owns the entire company. They aren't owned anymore by one person. Therefore, not a "privately held company"

They are a publicly traded company, with a Board, shareholders, etc.......they answer to people for their decisions. Not like me, for example, who owns my own company and am not beholden to anyone for my decisions.

Sheesh

Then perhaps CK should go protest in China. Let’s see how that works out.

So a guy who wears a Fidel Castro t shirt but shits on the American Flag understand’s what being an American is all about?

I agree that one must stand for something.

But this is the Governor of a State, who has responsibilities for the well-being of that state. It is just my opinion that he should put aside his personal disdain for CK (or I guess actually Nike's decision to retreat on the shoe) in order to further the economic profile of people in his State.

I would venture a guess that the Gov running Nike out of the State (if it even comes to that) would do more harm to the people of Arizona than anything that Nike or CK does or says????

Exactly!

Some people in this country need to take a loooonnnnggg look in the mirror...we’re the luckiest, most blessed, most spoiled people on the planet yet so many can’t see the forest for the trees...

Get some perspective...

I really don't care what you were promised or whatever weak point that was. My point was they are not making up this whole reparations thing. A lot of people genuinely and honestly don't know that.

Of course, no one mentions the fact that the reason Kap advised Nike against releasing the shoe is because the Betsy Ross version of the flag has been adopted by White Supremacist groups as a symbol against the rising diversity of the country. Kap is a paid endorser of Nike and has a vested interest in Nike being successful, and he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't speak up if he knew information about that symbol that would have a negative impact on the brand and its bottom line. It's amazing how Kap (and now Nike) is hated by some for exercising his First Amendment rights and bringing attention to issues that impact people that look like him (and many of the beloved players on the Clemson football team) through peaceful demonstration, and the response by some is "if you don't like it, get out." Protest is as American an act as anything in this country (see Boston Tea Party), and that "protest" wasn't exactly peaceful. Some say "Kap don't protest during the National Anthem because that's disrespectful"; but it's perfectly respectful for NFL teams to sell beer during the playing of the national anthem. I just wish some (especially those that claim to be Christian) would just admit that they don't care about the plight of others that aren't them, that they don't care about the plight of others that don't look like them, and that they have no empathy for groups of people whom they can't relate to or have a specific connection to. Conservatives claim to be against "big government", but have no problem with government officials brutalizing or executing unarmed people of color with little to no provocation other than they felt threatened the person "might be armed". But of course, that's a "Second Amendment" issue that conservatives and the NRA doesn't care about...they don't care about people being killed by the government for "maybe" having a gun if it's "one of them". For once, I just wish people would admit they don't care....as long as its "them" and not us...(unless he's a Clemson Tiger)

Why should he protest in China? He had the right to do that in his own country. He's protesting something that's important to him. He probably doesn't give a damn about kids dieing in China. He was endorsing Nike. My point is the same hypocrisy exists in this thread. People decide to not wear Nike based on Kap exercising an American right meanwhile they were wearing Nike proudly while they were killing and exploiting kids.

Kap can wear whatever he wants. I don't give a damn. You feel this strongly about the Confederate flag on a shirt? They fought a war against this country. Many Americans died. I don't care if people wear that either. I'd never wear a Confederate flag shirt or a Castro shirt.

Sure he can. But that makes him an idiot and not someone who should be admired. Same for the person who wears a Confederate flag shirt.

I get it now. You think he should be punished for protesting? Maybe with your belief system you'd prefer a place like China. In America we realized people died for both sides of the aisle unlike China. I disagree with Kap wearing that shirt. I disagree with the KKK hating people based on race but as long as they don't break actual laws people died so they have that right. I'm a Christian and disagree with other doctrines but I don't want them shipped out. That's kinda the whole point of America. What makes us great and unique.

Then don't admire him. Suggesting he should leave or he's something other than an American using his rights make that person criticizing him an idiot and not to be admired. Straight parallel right there.

Here's how this is going to go down.

Nike prices a "collector" shoe at $140 made by some Chinese 5 year old working 80 hours a week.
CK "bitches" about the context of the shoe
Nike pulls shoes
Nike detractors write articles
Nike fanbois and the wackjobs defend CK in the press
Nike re-releases the shoes for $180
Nike shareholders grin ear to ear.

$180 might be a bit low.......StockX will have these mofos listed at $700 with multiple bids by end of week.

Totally separate topic but StockX valuation of $1B last week has totally blown my mind.

Then don't admire him. Suggesting he should leave or he's something other than an American using his rights make that person criticizing him an idiot and not to be admired. Straight parallel right there.
Ha, don’t worry.

My belief system? You do not get the luxury of knowing my "belief system" unless I share it with you and I certainly did not do it in that two line post.

The point, which you clearly missed, was that if someone wants to see severe social injustice (and I am not discounting what is happening in this country to whatever degree it is happening, it ain't happening like it is in a place like China) then go and try and do it in a place like China. Watch how fast someone like CK would beg to want to come back to this version of social injustice.

The part that gets me is CK stood up in front of a camera talking about being oppressed in the USA while wearing a TShirt with a picture of Castro on it. If you really out to stop oppression don't wear a shirt showing a dictator that oppressed tons of people. It shows how out of touch CK really is.

That's one of the weakest arguments you can make with any subject. You think it's bad here you should go there. LOL. Doesn't matter one bit. You're getting beaten over here. Well if you go where they're getting killed you'll come back here and be happy to take your beatings.

That instead of working to stop the beatings. Yeah. Great perspective.

That gives people a pass when it comes to addressing his point on that subject. Yeah he's right but he's a communist so I'm not listening to anything he says.

Can a person have a point in one category while clearly being lost and out of touch in another area?
