I presume the states will be in charge now. Not sure if results will improve, but I am fine with trying a different path.
Less crazy than Jimmy Carter creating the Department of Education and having it grow ever since. The farther down you push things the more accountability there is on how tax dollars are getting spent and who is responsible for the decisions and the results (or lack thereof).Ya I don’t really know what to make of this. On its surface it sounds crazy, BUT ….. the states are and have been in charge of their curriculum and that even goes down to the county level and even in individual schools.
Soooooo when you really look at it, not really sure what the fed dept of education did??? Outside of providing “guidance”, which could or could not be adopted.
Baltimore City is one of the worst school districts in the country, receives the MOST funding per student by capita.I like the idea. States can't do a worse job than the Feds.
Serious question because I legitimately don't know. Is that funding just federal funding? Or the school district has the highest budget? I thought most schools were mostly funded by local tax dollars. In which case I would think federal funding in that case is only leveling the playing field. I am definitely just guessing, so maybe I'm way off. Just doubt their schools are palaces and have the highest budget, but maybe I'm way off base.Baltimore City is one of the worst school districts in the country, receives the MOST funding per student by capita.
Our school district in Maryland (Queen Anne’s County), is “OK”, but the schools in our county seat have been at max population for decades, haven’t been renovated since the 80s, and are falling apart. Both elementary schools in town have water stations because of all the lead plumbing used, the water from the tap isn’t safe to drink …. been a problem for decades. Build new schools???? NOPE, funds went to a 25k sq ft Board of Education facility whose price tag is north of $14Mil.
Too be fair, the previous BoE building was from 1903, soooooo they did need a new facility, but no one has been able to explain to me why administrators, in a rural county, in todays age of Zoom/Teams need a 25k sq ft facility while our schools are falling apart.
Sorry soap box moment ….
You'd think so, but somehow executive orders have come to rule everything. Trump and others all includedSo i guess the question is HOW would it have to be done. Dept of Ed was created during the Carter Admin through the DoEd authorization act in 1979. Act=Law. So if a law created it wouldn't that law need to be repealed to un-create it?
We (red states) are already there for the most part aren't we? Why not take a different track?Stupid idea. Particularly when you realize that the vast majority of Funding for education comes from the Federal Government. Where do you think that money is coming from?
Get ready for the Red States to have the worst Education systems in the country.
What’s the different track? We (red states) are already there for the most part aren't we? Why not take a different track?
My Fulton County property tax bill would disagree with you.Stupid idea. Particularly when you realize that the vast majority of Funding for education comes from the Federal Government. Where do you think that money is coming from?

I'd like to see the rankings of our schools vs other countries since the inception of the D.O.E.
Oh no, there goes our education system that fails the vast majority of our kids. What will we doStupid idea. Particularly when you realize that the vast majority of Funding for education comes from the Federal Government. Where do you think that money is coming from?

Giving money directly to the states instead of filtering it through la DEI lens in Washington DC.What’s the different track?
There was a good infographic going around yesterday. Since the creation of DOE the cost of education has skyrocketed, yet the scores have not increased at all.I'd like to see the rankings of our schools vs other countries since the inception of the D.O.E.
Good Grief.
Do you have more detail on the DEI lens of the DOE fund allotment?Giving money directly to the states instead of filtering it through la DEI lens in Washington DC.
That's all I'm asking, personally. Agreed education needs to be better, but tearing it down with no plan can set our system back the same way the lockdowns did if they don't get it together.I’m not against this, but I do hope there is a solid plan post DOE. Federal funding is still critical to the country’s education.
GOP needs to avoid things like Obamacare “repeal and replace,” with no replacement plan. That’s like a dog chasing a car. There needs to be a cogent plan on the backend of these issues.
State taxes will go up. Federal taxes will go down. Local control of education restored. States may even let the counties run their own show.
They consume the far left.Where do they find these psychos?
So the USA was number one in the 1960’s into the ‘70’s. Those were my secondary years🤣.
I’m not against this, but I do hope there is a solid plan post DOE. Federal funding is still critical to the country’s education.

It’s more complicated than that. First, I don’t want to commit to higher state taxes when the federal government could shift left and re-raise my federal taxes. Then I’m paying even more than I pay today. That concept - higher total taxes - is not an option I would ever support.
You also then have wealthier areas of SC having to contribute a larger share to support poor areas of SC that receive a larger share of federal funding today. So in other words, instead of the burden of supporting poor areas being spread across the US tax base, it will be concentrated on the higher earners in SC. No thank you.
We can remove the DOE but keep federal funding for education in place. That’s the only way this works.

Right now do you think there is a cogent plan? If you had to bet on it is that something you think trump did different this time?I’m not against this, but I do hope there is a solid plan post DOE. Federal funding is still critical to the country’s education.

SC gets over 75% of education funding from the federal government. Get ready for a tax hike.
