HS football/American Flag unbelievable

It's not complicated. Read the two posts after mine from people involved and aware of details.

Cliffs: kids brought flags to taunt the Hispanic kids (yeah prob from Mexico) that go to Berea.

I don't know if they are illegal. In my experience, most were probably born here, but solid chance a few are illegal and several more have parents who are.

Not the point however.

I don't care where anyone stands on immigration, you can't have a whole student section at a school sponsored event mocking a whole group of kids from another school based on their ethnicity.

The American flag is the center piece of this discussion for obvious reasons, but as others have stated, it was being used as a prop. At a game I attended last basketball season between two schools, one which has a high Hispanic population, the flags were one of many props, including Make American Great signs, Trump signs, and build the wall signs.

So yeah, it sucks that something as great as the flag was discouraged from being taken into a game.

Sucks even more than adults on a message board think it's ok for kids to use the flag to ridicule another group of kids.

I think there is some sort of assumption in your post and others that the Hispanic kids are offended by the flag in general. Pretty sure that isn't the case. Sure most of the Mexican/Americans I know are proud of their heritage and pull for the Mexican soccer team, but they don't hate America or the flag.

However punks waving it in their face to rub their nose in how unwelcome they are is probably not appreciated.
Sorry but your post made no sense. If they are not offended by the flag why is it a problem, even if is waved in their face. They can be proud of their heritage but they came he for reason and if our flag causes them a problem then maybe they really do not want to be a US citizen and should man up and accept that we are proud of our country and flag. How does waving an American Flag ridicule anyone that has come to the USA to be a part of our Country. Maybe they should bring their own American flag and wave it in the TR students faces.

Sounds like it was racist to assume "the hispanic" students weren't American. Americans don't have a certain look. Who knows maybe "the hispanic" kids would have chanted U-S-A because they love this country.

ELR if you're not native american a boat brought you here too

The flag doesn't offend them waving on a pole, in a parade, or being saluted to before the game....idiots waving it in their face to mock them as being illegal or not real Americans offends them.

Are you seriously not able to see the difference?

Your missing one key element my man a boat didn't start this country. I'm a history buff, so don't bring that. Who's the key?

Were you a history major at Clemson? Had a couple buddies that went that route.

no, he's not, and it's pretty sad. Rational thought doesn't affirm him.

Nah, biblical. Many should read "the blood trail". My history is from someone that don't exist in many hearts. Why study history in school when you can pick up the bible and know the truth?

So what was your major at Clemson?

@tigerjl is 100% correct on this issue.
As a lot of you know, I was born in a Latin American country (Brasil). My entire family is from there. But I moved to the States when i was 6. Grew up in the States, am an American citizen (lol have never been an illegal citizen).
I obviously love the United States but I also have an affinity and respect for the country where I was born and where all of my family (except my immediate family) still lives today.
It's a part of me, whether I like it or not.
So because I'm from a Latin American country i'd be ok for other students to taunt me? And I'm supposed to be cool with it, right? I feel like I'm as American as the guy my neighbor or colleague who were born here.

The Berea kids aren't out here burning American flags or bringing other flags and showing contempt for America. They are just trying to go to a football game and have fun, but they are being attacked because their skin color is diff or because their last name is Lopez or whatever. It's ridiculous.

The American flag is being brought out for the sheer purpose of ridiculing other students. It's not being waved out of patriotism but as a way to mock a group of people because that group looks different (even though they are likely American).
There's no reason for berea kids to be subjected to this kind of behavior. Good for the Principal

I'm pretty sure this is the same principal that didn't let anyone bring the American Flag on school grounds after Osama Bin Laden was killed also.

you and your post are very stupid
I've not called anybody any names. So another dumbass that wouldn't say this to someone they didn't know in person but can say it behind the keyboards. I was responding to the post before that one in case you didn't know.

So it's dishonoring the flag to keep kids from dishonoring the flag?

If a bunch of kids bring little American flags to a football game for the single purpose of mocking hispanic kids, then they weren't honoring the flag, they were using it as a prop.

Some sad, ignorant folk up in this thread.

I would whip my kid's ass for being a racist prick and using the Stars and Stripes as a punchline.

Kids will be kids, I get it, but it's the adults job to teach them to be smarter. Principal made right call and gave a solid explanation, which was probably too long for OP to read.

This has nothing to do with illegals or Trump or being PC. It's a classic example of high school kids being dumb, like we all were.

And if you are ok with your kid ridiculing Mexican kids cause you don't like them being here, then you are next level worthless and your kid probably will be too.
One part of your statement is the one thing that is wrong with our society today. The parenting aspect. My parents would have whipped my butt as well for doing something like that as a kid. Now as a kid I knew that and that in itself stopped me from doing those things. That and the fact I was taught respect and simply not bothering people. While I hate to see the Flag not being honored I understand why the decision was made for a safety purpose. The real losers in this situation are the dumb ass people using the flag as a taunting tool. Those people need to be punished. Crazy to think back when I was in school we used to stand by our desk every morning. Hand over our hearts.Saying the Pledge of Allegiance right after roll call. Now we have this. Sad sad sad

It's America! I'm tired of these people coming to our country and expecting us to change. Like kids having to learn Spanish in school and it's required to graduate. How about some of them learn our language? They come here for a better life, that I understand. But stop the bs of trying to push your agenda. Close the borders, we can't take much more because we are full of sh!t already.
Do they really make kids take Spanish in high school? I thought they were just required to take a foreign language? And Spanish was one of their choices.

I'm sure the principal was trying to disengage any conflicts, but the price he will pay within his own community may prove to be greater. If they are citizens, then they should actually greet the flag with open arms. People better start opening their eyes because each day the freedoms and liberties we enjoy are eroding.

I think it was clear from the statements that the flag wasn't what they were concerned about greeting them.

Did they play the national anthem before the game? If so, did he take down the flag afterward? If people get upset at the sight of the flag being waved at them in any manner then they need to grow a pair. It's a flag and it will not hurt them. If it is mentally opposing for them, then by all means move to a country that fits their needs.

If you read the article, it was not "the flag" that was the problem. Yes, they sang the national anthem and displayed it properly throughout the entire game.

The problem was a history of "America vs Mexico" taunting from people who bring hand held flags into the stadium (who would not normally do so and only do so for purposes of this game).

The flag wasn't the problem. The people and how they were using it was.

And your point is? Mine is it shouldn't be a requirement in America!

you are swimming upstream here @MillerHighLife21 . you are obviously right, the issue isnt the flag, its the way the idiots at the school are using the flag to taunt others. these folks ITT have no interest in understanding, or even reading about, the circumstances that led to the ban. read the responses... this is easily one of the largest collection of idiots TI has ever seen in a single thread.

is this real life? are you being serious?
Of course I'm serious. Too bad so called Americans are not serious about what's going on in this country. The political race could be a reality tv show this year. And that's just a small sample of how stupid people have become in America. People don't care about America. They only care about what they can take from being an American.

soooo, foreign language learning requirements (obviously imposed by barack obama) are ruining our country?

You can't dig too deep can you?

so the post about 7 posts up isnt implying that foreign language requirements are ruining our country?

do you have some other explanation for your point that foreign language requirements shouldnt be allowed because we live in america?

I'm taking the article on its merits (maybe I'm mistaken) if the Pricipal was doing it for the safety of attendees etc I get it ... I didn't say I liked it ... But I understand he's doing his job to keep things safe at a very tense event.
Holy shat, pass me the Tylenol ! The excuse is laughable at best!

As a principal, I have to look at what I could enforce when it comes to issuing directives.

I'm not sure how I could enforce a suspension or any discipline associated with "taunting with an American Flag."
