I know a lot of you hate on Newspring. But did any of you attend today's

Ron- As it turns out, PT Barnum was a master of understatement.

Jesus preached to 5000 men plus their families on at least one occasion. I don't think he has a problem with mega churches for the same of their size.

Lol at this thread...usually on TI it's Christians against non-Christians or evolution...now its Christians against another type of Christian.

I need some popcorn.

Re: I have a question for you New Springers.

It was the choice of my church based on it's instruction and my parents based on their believes. Which is a long standing tradition going back hundreds of years. It was not based on publicity for the church or minister which is the case with your church. Are you saying my church and parents were wrong and misguided in my baptism? And since I was an infant my parents and my church wanted my soul to be saved in case something happened to me. On the one hand, I am glad more young people are going to church, but I am afraid that these mega churches are doing it for the wrong reason. Again, I just do not put much faith in a minister wearing expensive clothing, rolex watch, living in a mansion and driving an expensive car. I refer to the Rev. Billy Graham who lives here in Black Mountain and lives in the same modest home he has lived in for years.

I try to stay away from this type of thing because it always get too heated. I was raised in church and my dad tough me to judge not. I have reasons why that type of church isn't for me, but to each his/her own. I just can't seem to understand why new spring members get so hurt and angry if others don't like them. What happened to turning the other cheek? It's almost like when I was young and did wrong, but didn't want to admit that i was wrong. My conscious knew I should, but I just couldn't admit it. Members trully get angry and I see hatred in their christian eyes that I've not seen from fellow christian in my life. I also sense a holier than thou attitude from some that go there and it reminds me of when Jesus went into the temple and turned over the tables. I was at work the other day and simply said that I preferred smaller churches, but if others liked it then I'm happy for them. I got the evil eyes and was told that I wasnt a fit for them anyway since I would probably question Mr. Nobles and not trust that he knew what was best for me. Last I heard, that was God's job. With all that being said, do as you please, but quit getting angry if others don't feel the same as you.

nmerrit11 you are right. All you have to do is accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. Nothing else. No being dunked in a swimming pool etc.

MT, I'm thinking Ron Munson has about zero in common with you. And that's a compliment. Unless you want to break bread at McDonald's and talk about how Wasps have screwed Americans for 100 years, I think you'll be better to pass on the lunch offer.

What was the point of showing the pregame videos in the church? What was the text of that sermon this morning?
As for baptism: The only baptism that is required for salvation is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Water can't save you.

I live in the Midlands so I don't know anything about Newspring other than what I have read on this website.
For what I know about mega-churches, I will give 10-1 odds they don't have a cross anywhere outside the church (and maybe in) and they have a corporate style logo.

I find it extremely frustrating that NS "owners" have yet to comment on the original point but are fervent in protecting the integrity of the "church" as a whole.

But good luck getting a straight answer from them. I went 9 pages with them trying to find out how much ole Perry makes annually and got nothing. Still waiting too...

I'm not a member, but most of the people commenting have zero clue about that church. I, for one, enjoy Perry's style. I'm not a big fan of the music, but it got to hear Perry or Clayton speak.

The sermon was basically about people being more invested/involved in their favorite sports team than they are God.

I currently work as a territory manager for one of the largest private companies in the world covering 14 states. I live on the fairway of a nice golf course and my children attend a private Christian school. If I'm the lowest common denominator I cannot wait to meet you and here what I'm missing. Please let's meet. My treat.
My aren't you impressive? Material possessions make the man.

Did they give away a new Jeep again. BTW, that's totally biblical. Remember when Jesus went around handing out brand new chariots?

Catch. I appreciate your traditions and I am not attacking them in any way. I think it's awesome you were raised by godly people and they wanted what's best for you. All I'm saying is that baptism as a baby meant nothing as an adult bc you didn't know what u were doing. U had no say in the matter. It'd b like comparing an atheist saying I did a ceremony on my child as an infant to b atheist. It doesn't include the actual person. That same atheist may become a great leader for Christ. All I'm saying is we, as adolescents teens or adults, know and understand what it means to b baptized. You didn't have a clue what u were doing as an infant. I don't doubt your faith, I don't deny your traditions, I don't disagree w what your folks did. But to say what happened to u as an infant vs what you CHOOSE to do as your own person is different. Whether it b getting dunked at newspring or at ninety six baptist church, YOU made that decision. That's my only point. There are several traditions in the church, heck there are traditions in life, doesn't make them right OR wrong. I hope u understand I'm not judging u.

Jam. Please re read chass post. I am in no way claiming possessions make the man. I have what I have bc God has blessed me. My road has been long and hard. But for him to make a statement about the "lowest common denominator" is unfair and overly general.

Swu. I would like to invite you to watch the sermon. I'm not going to type out his sermon but I can assure you this. If you're open minded and you listen to his sermon you will see exactly what has people so excited and why this church is growing. No one puts a gun to people's head at NS and says give me money. Also, if you're in the upstate id like to invite u to any campus next Sunday.

Re: I have a question for you New Springers.

Since you brought Billy Graham into the conversation, you need to refer to his teachings in regards to Baptism...

There was talk earlier here if you have to be Baptized or not, I guess we all have an opinion on that and we surely will know the right answer to it one day.

I personally have been baptized, actually twice once as a kid growing up in the Church of God and later after getting married and we joined a Baptist church and I felt the right thing to do was be baptized in that Church. But that's just me.

I often wonder about the thief on the Cross.

If we read Luke 23 42 and 43, and I know most of you know what was said in those verses but if not

Luke 23:42-43New International Version (NIV)

42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[a]"

43 Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."

well the thief was not baptized and he was told by Jesus he would be in paradise with him. So maybe we don't have to be baptized but we do have to ask for forgiveness and accept God has our savior to enter his kingdom.

I also wonder from reading that verse, is that also saying when we die, if we have accepted God as our Savior, will we immediately enter heaven. I think so. I hope so.

I saw a NewSpring member who I'm friends with on FB blatantly say "you won't see a cross at NewSpring, we don't celebrate the cross, we celebrate the resurrection".

I was floored. The cross IS THE symbol of what Christianity is about. If not for the cross, there is no way for us. You know how the veil was torn after the crucifixion so we could come straight to the Father? Umm kinda important there, Perry.

December and orange. IMO and what NS teaches is simply this. Baptism is a outward expression to your peers and church that you have accepted Christ as your savior. Plain and simple. It will NOT save you. It's simply your declaring to the world you have accepted. To be saved you only have to accept Christ as your savior. I believe the NS stance is this-Christ was baptized so there is some importance to it. Is getting dunked in water the only way. NOPE. BUT it's your way of announcing your faith. Nothing more. Nothing less.

No, Perry just extorts it out of them by telling them if you give money, God will bless you with more, and if they don't, your car will break down, A/C go out, or you will lose it in some other way.

Then he quotes Old Testament Bible verses about tithing, and conveniently leaves out a very important New Testament verse on tithing.

I have no problems with giving money to the church, as I just did this morning. I have a problem with giving money that is being extorted out and me to cover nothing but overheard.

Doo. I respectfully disagree. Christianity is about a God who sent his Son to die for us. But wo the resurrection what's the death for. The resurrection symbolizes Christ defeating the grave and more importantly DEATH. You may not see crosses but you will see one thing-and that is the EMPTY TOMB OF OUT RISEN SAVIOR. That's what it's about.

1 Corinthians 11:26
Galatians 6:14

Read those and stop believing what PN tells you about the cross.

What a chode.

If that doesn't disturb you, then there is something wrong.

There is no way anyone with a decent amount of Biblical knowledge can fall for the venom Perry spews. He is preaching on a elementary level and most of his followers just don't know any better.

I can't see much difference from him and David Koresh and Jim Jones, purely from a message standpoint.

I'd like to state this. I didn't start this thread to debate NS. I started it bc I saw a video. So with that out of the way I'll say this. The YouTube video of perry is over 3 years old. However, what he says is true per the bible. We don't get to seperate the testaments. I don't necessarily agree that u have to give 10% of your gross our God will punish you. I do believe this however. I've gone to church my entire life and if anyone of you that are attacking NS can sit here and say your pastor or preacher or bishop never talks about tithing. If you can say my leader doesn't ask for money. Just say it. Bc they all do. I was a member at a small baptist church for a few yrs and every sermon he mentioned the tithe. I later joined a large baptist church and it was even more prevalent. But I'll say this about NS. They are not afraid to take that money and make it count. I don't see other churches that give as much as NS w the money they have been tithed. I go to a satellite campus where they turn a little auditorium into a spectacle. That reaches people that don't feel comfortable at a typical church. I'm sorry I even asked about this video now. But I'd invite all of you to watch the sermon. Thanks.

TigerJR is spot on ...

Like it or not, NewSpring is reaching more people for Christ than any other church in SC. If you have a problem with that, you need serious help.

Sorry chass. I meant Ron Munson. I apologize. Jam. Read Ron Munson comment on pg 1. Not chass. Sorry chass.

Surely you're not that naive... You put "newspring" in your title. You knew exactly the responses you were going to get. You're proving some points that have been made because half of the posts in this thread are from you. I don't know enough about NS to be critical, but from what I've seen and read, it's not for me, and that doesn't make me wrong or any less of a follower than NS'ers.
EDIT-to say "in" before the Monday morning explosion OR the lock.

Doo. Those scriptures u sight are about the resurrection. The cross is a symbol. Christ is alive. I don't worship, love, believe in two pieces of wood. I believe in a risen savior. I'd invite you to read the remainder of 1 Ch 2:2-5. Anyone can cherry pick one verse. Read them in their totality.
