If golf is a sport, then so is pro gaming

Golf requires extreme hand eye coordination, flexibility, hip explosion, mental toughness, endurance, concentration, and intestinal fortitude. Hitting a golf ball consistently straight and correct distances is one of the hardest things in the world to do. And the unathletic have no real shot at being good.

Just because you can also do it while drinking beer and smoking cigarettes doesn't mean it's not a sport.

Craig "Iron head" Heyward used to pound a 12 pack before every game. Guess we need to eliminate football as a sport? All the top golfers are great athletes who would excel at many sports. They must have great core strength and tremendous flexibility at that level. Not saying they run 4.4 forties, but my guess is you could pick a sport out of a hat and they would kick your ass at it.

Guess it doesn't take athletic ability and coordination to hit a golf ball 300 plus yards straight or hit a ball and stop it within inches of your desired target....anybody can do that right?

Exactly. It's the hand eye coordination along with flexibility and muscle memory. I can imagine that if you haven't played it might seem that athletic ability isn't required. Playing the game how it was intended to be played (walking and not riding in a cart) requires a decent amount of endurance and also mental focus. Just give it a shot. Very likely that your opinion would change IMO.

This isn't a troll, I'm dead serious. I don't understand why golf is considered a sport. There's no team aspect, no athletic ability required, and no aerobic stress. It's just a hobby for the wealthy to do business over.

A Sport: is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

So singles tennis is not a sport? Squash? Boxing? Skiing? Etc...... You are a complete idiot if you believe what you are saying.

What should I expect to happen? Take a long time because I've never done it? I know I won't be getting stronger since there's no true athletics in it

Being and athlete has nothing to do with being a sport so long as there is physical exertion. You are either a troll of epic proportions, and enjoy pissing people off with your ridiculous assertions, or you really have nothing better to do with your life than to come on this board and spout your ignorance. Still not sure which. But hey you got a multi page thread with people agreeing/disagreeing with your assertion so that's probably a sport too.

The funny thing is nobody has pointed out that pro gamers are no different based on a lot of people's assertion that it's difficult to be good at golf. Pro gaming isn't any different in that regard.

This is clearly a 10/10 and anyone who says different is lying to themselves.

100% sure you are a gamer

Both require next to no physical athletic ability nor put any aerobic stress on the body. Fact
You would be wrong. Very mentally stressing for the perfectionist. But relaxing when just playing with your kids. I see swinging a club as the same as a baseball pitcher. Takes a lot of mechanics. The stress part of golf is yoù can't blame anyone but yourself after a bad round. It's a zone thing. Every qb, pitcher has to deal with it. You're still trying to win and it is hard on your back.

Since you're looking up definitions you might want to check out the word "individual"

@Ron Munson are you doing whitewater or lakes? I feel the need to stay active. Apparently my hikes and occasional golf aren't enough.
You don't have to play sports to be active. You can hike in the mountains, or you can walk on a golf course and follow a path with a ball and stick. Neither are sports but you're still moving
This was clearly thought up by a underdeveloped mind. Late teens, early twenties I'd guess. Habitual user of thc products. Lacks cognitive reasoning.
I've never smoked in my life. I'm 21.
You must really SUCK at golf
I wouldn't know, I've never tried the golf hobby
@johnhugh everytime you post something it makes me wish someone was there to backhand you across the face.
Looks like you are upset about receiving a backhand of truth

I don't have a sister, but if I did, and if we were somehow to end up going on a golf date, there wouldn't be a fight, I'm more mature than that

You are also not very bright if you think golf is not a sport. It is one of the hardest sports I have ever played.

Please throw NASCAR into the mix too. I "play their sport" every day on the way to and from work. And I can make right handed turns.

Based on the OP's definition of what a sport is (@johnhugh), cheer leading would be one of the most difficult sports in the world. Cheer leading is NOT a sport and is a hobby or pastime.
As previously mentioned, Tennis is somehow a sport with the OP (which I agree with), but not a "team" sport, which is one of qualifiers for a sport by the OP. I assure you that even though there are individual efforts/competitions in track, tennis, golf, swimming, diving, etc., all are very much team sports.
I am now dumber for reading and getting involved in this thread.

The only argument is the amount of exertion. If you can pound beers and smoke cigars while playing, probably shouldn't be classified as a sport.

Have you ever played softball?

Wouldn't most of the "counterarguments" being profferred here not sufficiently distinguish golf from professional video gaming?

For example:

"Hitting a golf ball is very hard to do, most people can't do it, etc etc" - I'm sure video gaming at a professional level is as well

"Requires hand eye coordination with a very difficult mental aspect" - I'm guessing the hand eye coordination/mental game is probably what makes these people good at video games

"Golf equipment is a business that sells millions of dollars each year, <insert various financial arguments" - would definitely be true regarding video games

In short, the premise of the OP was that golf was on the level of video games as a sport. To me, most of counters here don't do anything to sufficiently distinguish it in that regard.

Pretty sure OP wins this.

Conveniently ignored the fact that the unathletic cannot be good at golf. Also that it requires flexibility and hip explosion. But I'm sure you're just trying to continue the troll... so carry on.

If one wants to consider pro gaming a sport for fingers, I will just laugh at them and allow it.

Have you seen the senior pga tour or Angel Cabrera?

Weak troll OP. Go study for English 101, freshman finals are soon approaching.
