The Right went nuclear about Twitter not reporting on a laptop for a couple of days, claiming it would have changed the election outcome. If that's true, then Trump never would have been President in the first place.

The guy was FACTUALLY INCORRECT. Trump was indicted (trump said INDICATED in his truth social but it is indicted--surprisingly inaccurate word usage since he is a master of the big words like Person, woman, man, camera, TV and the smartest of all the persons). A jury decided that there was enough evidence to indict. To answer your question, yes, it's ethical to investigate when there is a reasonable cause to believe a crime has been committed.
