That's basically what I've seen from most people. Pretty hard to argue that the Trump team didn't break the rules/laws of the Presidential Records Act. Everything released thus far at least shows that the Trump team wasn't honest with the National Archive and was pretty lax with security involving Classified documents.

The dude has an uncanny ability to avoid actually getting in trouble for things, primarily because he immediately throws his lackies under the bus and shows zero loyalty towards them. This might be why his legal team has been so laughably bad. Nobody wants to put their reputation on the line working for this guy.

Well, everyone here knows how I feel about Trump, but...

Personally, I don't think so. It's pretty obvious he had some papers he wasn't supposed to and he and his lawyers lied about it (hence the raid to get them back).

How much of a crime is this REALLY? Not too much IMHO. I personally don't believe that he was going to sell Nuclear secrets to the Russians. That's a trip to jail for the rest of his life and it's pretty easy to get caught doing that... Trump is smarter than that.

Total supposition on my part, but I do believe that he had a plan to make a buck on what he did take, but I also believe that the papers he did take were fairly low level, but would be very valuable to the right person. So no great harm to the country, Trump makes money... And most importantly perhaps, if he DID get caught doing it, he can say that this stuff was boxed up accidently by the White House Staff and that he didn't know anything about it and the papers weren't REALLY national secrets at all...

This is a slap on the wrist type of crime. Low risk if caught, lots of money if you don't (hell, even if you do b/c I'd bet there's a copy machine or two in Trump's place).

My problem here is the same as it's always been. Trump works for Trump and he will do and say ANYTHING to benefit himself. In this case he accused the FBI of all kinds of things (including planting evidence) as well as the DOJ. It's becoming apparent that the Archives people instigated this (for good or Ill) to get those papers back and the DOJ and FBI were just doing their jobs and following the law. I'd be willing to bet that neither the DOJ or the FBI wanted ANYTHING to do with the utterly predicable fallout of serving a search warrant on Trump.

But Trump once again puts himself above the well being of America, blaming anyone and everyone but himself to make himself look good. In other words, just another Tuesday afternoon for Trump, but another damaging hit job on American institutions.

As required by the PRA, former President Obama has no control over where and how NARA stores the Presidential records of his Administration."
