Kaepernick decides he's not going to stand for the national anthem.

No. I was addressing a different statement. If you don't think that African Americans deal with oppression in this country then there's really nothing for us to discuss. We can stick to Clemson football.
There is nothing to discuss on this topic! Go Tigers

Oppression. What a crock. So sick of hearing this crap. There is some type of racism against every color, not just blacks. But most people make decisions based on their life experiences. So sick of all the cry babies that just don't want to take responsibility for their own lives and instead look to blame somebody else for every issue in their life. If he wants to sit then fine, but I hope they cut his ignorant butt and tell him he sit on the couch next time instead of the bench.

Google "oppression". You are either extremely out of touch with reality or you dont know what the definition of the word is.
I did, see below.

"prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control."

I'm very involved in a community where poverty among minoroties is relatively high and am on the board of a non-profit that helps at risk youth. I have yet to see the above going on anywhere (and wouldn't stand for it of I did, obviously).

Please give me examples of the above happening.

A cop abusing his power is not oppression. How can there be oppression of a race where that same race has someone at the highest place of power? There are people of that race owning companies, leading people, educating people. Where is the oppression?

I won't waste my time giving you examples. If you don't see it, it's either because Fox News is in your favorites list or you just don't want to see it. This discussion has many levels and is way too much to type. Would love to discuss in person.

Your asinine comment didn't deserve anything more. 7 more days.

You just don't have anything else because what I said was truth. I know so many "people of color" that have seized opportunity and made something of themselves that I refuse to let the rest of you cheapen their accomplishments.

Hell ole Colin is a perfect example of taking opportunity and bettering himself. He's just an ignorant ass that needs to gtfo

You don't have shit, and you know even less. Pathetic excuse for a human you are.

Calm down bro, it's not that serious

It is though, clowns like this guy are ruining what was the greatest nation on the planet. I'm sick of these fools and will exercise my right to voice it while I still can.

Don't watch Fox News.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Again, I'm not someone who just sits on a couch and watches/reads what the media says about something. I work with families in poverty, with kids who don't know where their father is. With parents who can't hold a job or a steady place of residence. They don't move around and jump jobs because they're oppressed. They don't not go to college because they're oppressed.

Lol. You seem pretty upset. Ugly wife and low balances in your bank accounts?

Gorgeous wife and enough in one account to live for 2 years without work. By that I mean I could still pay for myself.
You and your woman would be welfare sucking wic card slingin drains on society. Seriously man, get your people up and moving.

How is he ruining the country? He's stating his opinions and beliefs on a message board, same as you. Besides, isn't being able to have discussion with those of opposing thought healthy for everyone involved?

His opinions and beliefs are what is ruining this country. Not taking responsibility for our own actions is eroding our foundation.

I wanted to have a discussion. If you go back and look he resorted to cool guy internet tough stuff when presented with and idea and belief that he had no answer for.

How so? Give us a few examples of modern oppression in the US.

Who said he is standing for the anthem as a show of pride for the country that puts food on his table, money in his pocket, or allows for him to have a vote in how the country is run? Stand up b/c it is a show of respect in the league that makes him a multi-millionaire. People in the Olympics stand up for medal ceremony b/c of respect/class/manners...not agreement on every point from every country that wins. Not a ton of difference.

This is absolutely stupid in terms of how he is playing out his opinions on the topic. It will backfire and IMO it should. There are tons of ways to voice his displeasure over events in the country he feels oppresses him that don't involve a lack of decency and tact.

You mean the same country that twice elected an African-American president?

What an idiot.

I don't think he is--I think he's well within in his right to protest. What he's doing is no different than anyone else who just wants to express his/her views.

Have you done any research for yourself? Here's a few off the top of my head

1. Unfair lending practices between minorities and whites (makes it difficult to build wealth)

2. Employment access -- limits upward mobility and the opportunity to remove oneself from a bad situation

3. Unbalanced & unfair treatment for like crimes committed (US Legal System)

4. Gutting of Voting Rights Act (subsequent redlining of voting districts that took place immediately after this..especially in southern states).

5. Poor schools in rural & inner cities limiting access to quality education

6. Healthcare access (Obamacare has helped but hasn't in a lot of places...especially if you live in a state where the governor decides to not accept subsidies)

Plenty of other areas out there. Go do some research and see for yourself. The reason you may not be aware of it is because it probably doesn't directly impact you or your family/friends on a day to day, month to month, year to year basis. Things didn't automatically straighten themselves out 50-60 years removed from the Civil Rights. These systematic issues are still big hinderances for a lot of people of color although this country has made tremendous strides. There's still work to be done.

How so? Give us a few examples. Can't stand this victim mentality in our society instead of hard work and a little common sense. I have literally seen zero oppression of any race in a long while in the US.

Lol. Yea the same country that elected a black president and then sent him more death threats than any other president.
Mentality likes this keeps you down, in your own mind. What do you know about death threats to POTUS? Did the media tell you. Not going to say racism is dead or obsolete but your response just fuels the fire.

Nope. I've just realized over the years that there are a number of people on this board who are either set in their ways or not very intelligent. Either way it's a waste of time. I could (and have before) write a dissertation on the subject and it wouldn't change a thing.

Please share... I am intrigued.

Did I grow up and see racism, yes. Do I watch the news and see racism, yes. Racism is alive and well in this country. And it is on ALL sides.

People like throwing out statics all the time, so look at the facts of violent crimes by race, by per capita. Tell me or show me anywhere that proves where blacks are being oppressed.

I read about the first 20 comments and regret my black ass even opening up this thread. The amount of money you earn does not change the person you, your place as a minority in America are or your color. The election of a black President did not eliminate institutionalized racism or bigotry and the rise of an Anti-American labor Anti-American military pathological lying outsourcing illegal immigrant employer H2B Visas abuser Grand Wizard Trump still proves America has a long way to go.

If you don't think this is a race issue just judge the comments on social media according to each individuals ethnicity.

I just don't know what not standing for the national anthem proves. How is that making a stand for the oppression of blacks?

If he wants to do something, spend or donate some of your millions for programs for inner city youth or single moms, or something. But spending his own money is probably too serious for him and a price for making a stand he is not willing to do. Maybe he has already done lots though, and I just didn't do the research.

ANSWERING THE STUPID QUESTIONS:Would racism exist if there had been no US slavery?

The answer, of course, is yes. When Gunnar Myrdal wrote about racism in his An American Dilemma, it wasn’t the racism that made Jim Crow an American dilemma — it was the racism set against a founding document that declared that all men are created equal.

Racism is everywhere, and anyone who has traveled abroad and paid attention knows that it’s worse most other places than it is here in the United States. (And that includes Africa itself, of course, where ethnic differences that untutored Americans can’t even see — it’s like some ancient Star Trek episode — are of burning importance).

But the reason why so many commentators have to pretend that America is uniquely bad — and even teach college students that slavery was a uniquely Americaninstitution, invented by the Founders — is that otherwise they’d lose out on a lucrative hustle.

I absolutely think racism is very prevalent in our country today. But he is being a hypocrite, considering he's making over $100 million in this country that is supposedly oppressing him. The issue is not the country. The country is not holding him back in any way. It's the idiots that are still racists in position of power that are the problem, and not standing for the national anthem is not going to solve that in any shape or form. #fail
