SS is an entitlement that I paid into far more than I will get back. If you want to do away with SS, I'm all for it. Taking what I have put into social security over the years (not counting what my employers have put in) and instead have invested it in the S&P 500 mutual fund would be worth millions today. But hey, when I'm 65 I will get a whopping $3200 a month from Uncle Sam that they will tax.

When I cash my social security check it a check earned from paying into a system. If it was a welfare, food stamp, disability check then yes I would consider myself a socialist. Same with Government subsidized healthcare. But since I won’t be needing any of the socialists programs to live, just call me a providing American. And we are so hooked on them that seniors (and near seniors) will howl at the mere suggestion that benefits be reduced. And don’t dare suggest that conservative seniors don’t want their social security income.
Would you really want to live in a nation that didn’t redistribute wealth to some degree? Would you want to live in a city where people in poorer neighborhoods have dirt roads while yours are asphalt? Where they have septic tanks while you have sewers? Where they have no libraries because they don’t pay enough in property and income taxes to have one?

SS is not the same thing. It is more in line with prepaying your taxes and then getting a refund on tax day.
Just because the govt takes your money and then gives it back later “when you need it”, it is not socialism. It is why the government can not spend that money. (I know they have spent it all, but there is a building in WV with all the IOUs)

Well a number of colleges are coming to the conclusion that they don’t want the unvaccinated around at all. UVA disenrolled a couple hundred kids who were set to attend classes due to their being unvaccinated. Quinnipiac University will give unvaccinated kids a couple of weeks to become vaccinated before cutting them off from the school’s wifi.

Congress moved the funds allocated to and specifically dedicated for the Social Security Program from the original fund program into the general fund to offset the budget deficits that were accruing. At one time the fund was very solvent but because of our elected leaders the fund has been raided and is now very insolvent. It also hasn't helped that the death age of people has risen due to the increased effectiveness of our current medical fields. Also note that Social Security was meant as a retirement supplement and was not intended to provide full living support. Most people don't understand that aspect of the program and try to use it as a sole basis of income.
Got about halfway through the first page and forgot what the topic was. I believe anything Covid related should just go to the round table. I'm tired of reading both sides of the issue from a bunch of people, many of whom don't know what the hell they are talking about.

No problem. I was stating fact like you. The vaccine doesn't mean you want get COVID. The virus is far smarter than a vaccine, still has the capability of entering cells and cause a person to be infected with COVID.

That's just like the body naturally fights viruses and makes antibodies without any vaccine. There is a 99+ recovery rate unvaccinated, so why should anyone be pressured to get the vaccine?
