One thing you fail to see, in a national divorce neither side would want to claim custody of a loser like you. We would have to reinstate remain in Mexico for deadbeats like you.

While I do understand some of the sentiment the corruption isn't exclusive to one side. There are myriad examples for all to see of corruption in both parties. The biggest difference I can see from my perch is that one side wants to control EVERYTHING and the other wants to control most things. That's not much of an improvement. If we actually followed our Constitution in spirit and practice we'd see a much different United States. Our government has been a "sack of shit" for a long time and it's not one side's fault. We've all participated in this. A lot of our challenges stem from the fact that most Americans are just not educated on what it means to function in a Republic like ours. It is advanced citizenship and something that people must take the time to educate themselves to be an effective citizen. There isn't a lot of that any more.
The South would be just fine. That's such a popular argument but it's pretty much a canard. There would be all kinds of challenges but things could be dealt with though it would cost more. The government does far too much anyway. But really, the idea that we should wish away states is absurd. Every life is sacred.

Probably not. But this is where you kind of lose me every time and so do many on your side of these issues. Quality of life doesn't come from government. Resources don't come from government. Government should be as small and minimal as possible. Quality of life is about people functioning in a moral and just society. It's about a thriving economy. This isn't the Civil War Era. The South would thrive in any circumstance because it has all it needs to do so. In so many ways, the quality of life under a far less robust government would be infinitely better.
If quality of life includes entertainment, it will greatly suffer unless you're down with a diet of Westerns and the circus. 😅

The economic situation in the South would absolutely suffer in the event of a national divorce. Without a shred of doubt. It would suffer everywhere else as well. The economy relies on the freedom of movement of capital, material, and people. That's immediately stunted the moment a divorce happens.
If there was a national divorce, yes things would suffer. We are better together. But the inference was it would be much worse in the South and that just isn't the case. To your other points, I absolutely agree which is why I am against something like that. I really wish we'd just take on a more federalist viewpoint and allow states who want to be leftist to do so and vice versa for the more right leaning areas. If people don't like it, they can move.

It would be much, much worse in the south. With no pushback from the left, the evangelical christians would turn the south into a religious caliphate in short order. Not gays, no trans, much fewer rights for women, book burnings, etc.
While people might be attracted to the fiscal policies, they would be repulsed by the social policies. I know people who moved to their homes in FL during the pandemic, and could not wait to return to NY. While they are fiscally conservative, they could not stand all the bullshit being perpetrated by Desantis.

We are already pitting states against one another. Just read the post above about how blue states would be so glorious and red states would suffer from bigotry and hatred. I am a conservative man who is an Orthodox follower of Christ. WhyThe best business partner I have serves as legal counsel for one of the most liberal members of our state legislature. She is one of my best friends and we are fierce advocates for one another. She is also a lesbian. Most of the clients she sends me are from the gay community and I love them all so much. It is a privilege to be able to serve people and help them purchase a home. We both know that our views are different but it really doesn't matter in the context of our relationship because she knows the kind of person I am and I know what a terrific person she is. We know that we will serve our clients well in all cases.
In day-to-day life as a society, we all get along pretty well. It's only through morons who want to sow the seeds of division and misrepresentation of actual reality that we find such division. They are the perpetrators of all that is problematic in our society. Can you imagine the ineptitude of the medical community in a place like that? No doctors will want to move there since they'll be ignored, while everyone does their own research.
