*****Official Election Night Thread

Senate going to be 54-46. Hard not to view this as a sweeping mandate and fairly strong condemnation of dem policies. IWBH - this is probably a good thing for the Democratic Party in the long run. Hopefully forces them to abandon the Marxist identity politics bullshit and pushes them back toward the middle.

Terrible night for the country. Like many past despots, this wannabe authoritarian will be elected by those he will eventually work to oppress. Fearful for the rights of women, the LGBT community, and the non-religious in the country in the near future, not to even mention those legally in our country who will be mistakenly swept up in deportation efforts. The measures that this President has said he will take to expand his own power and the lengths he will go to use said power to punish political opponents and those critical in the media should be alarming to every American and the fact that Americans have voted for a candidate who has already attempted to excuse himself from the rule of law shows that we learned nothing from the lessons that past Fascist leaders should have taught us.

Not shocked by the win, I always felt this was a 50/50 race unlike other posters who inexplicably believed Harris would dominate. But the popular vote victory was certainly unexpected. Hope we can avoid turning the country into a conservative hellscape over the next 4 years.

I get that some folks are worried about Trump. His rhetoric can be disturbing at times. Rest assured that We The People are stronger than any one person's ability to seize control of our country.

Trump is the quintessential antipolitician that has BALLS to succeed where EVERYONE else has failed. HE is not a perfect guy, but he is the guy we need.

This is just deluded, farcical nonsense.

Are we? We literally just voted for someone who has said he wants to be a dictator, has expressed support for military tribunals for members of congress, has called sitting politicians “the enemy within,” and states he intends to issue pardons for criminals who were convicted after attempting to directly stop the literal democratic process of electing a president. I’m gonna have to go ahead and disagree that “we the people” are strong/smart enough to stop our own oppression.

He also said he would lock Hilary up...but he also said he was open to pardoning Hunter Biden... he says a lot of things.

So are we just not to believe anything he says? That doesn’t seem like a very good quality for a President to have.

@dbjork6317 for the record, I'm glad he did not purse Hilary, even though she committed multiple deliberate felonies WRT to her handling of TS/SCI and SAP data and her subsequent destruction of evidence about her crimes. Her prosecution would not have been good for our country. I am glad he is open to pardoning Hunter Biden---even though that dude is as corrupt has they get. His magnanimity on this point would make considerable inroads in uniting the country and stand in stark contrast to Obama's failure to display magnanimity WRT to race relations (instead, he stoked racial hatred--but that all for another thread).

Same. He’s smart and a centrist. I like his perspective.

Jessica Tarlov is an absolutely clown though. Juan Williams is very low IQ.
I tried to like Juan, and Allen Combs (God rest his soul) before him... just too eager to play the part and never call a spade a spade.
