OT: NFL settles with Kaepernick and Reid

They folded because they were going to lose.
Not sure they were going to lose per say, a lot of information would come out that would hurt their public image. Same could be said for Kaep’s side as well, in the end it was simpler to just pay a settlement than to draw it out in court.

They were winning the collusion case. For the collateral damage maybe not, but they weren’t losing the collusion case.

how is he a nuisance lol when is the last time he even spoke in public?

People looking at the exact same news report coming up with completely different assessments of the situation. That's hilarious. People just refused to be pushed off their points or belief system. Yup. Everyone.

I for one think that the fact that they sued tells us they had something. A collusion case doesn't survive very long in the courts without some sort of basic documentation that either convicts the party or shines light on some very concerning info. No way NFL settles without something incriminating. I believe someone on the NFL side slipped them gentleman some inside info. Case would've died long ago if not. Collusion simply doesn't survive on speculation or feelings.

He's a nuisance because the football media has been talking about him for 2 years and he's not even a football player anymore....and even when he was he wasn't a very good one. I get why the NFL settled but his ability as a player was certainly not evidence that he was being colluded against. There must have been some emails or texts that he had acquired where owners or GM's made comments about not bringing him in because of his beliefs.

As with most anything today (or like Forever....), follow the money.
A lot of noise is generated in this World because of "causes", "justice", "freedom" that if you really examine it,
are intelligent and open in your analysis to get to the root- its all about MONEY (Power=Money). That's not being cynical. It just..... IS.

So you're mad at the media not him? Are you mad at him for feeling blackballed or do you believe he wasn't blackballed?

Also, he doesn't have to be better than Brady, Brees, etc. Just be better than the clowns getting hired before him.

This is where you're completely wrong. I've heard that argument 100 times over the last 2 yrs and frankly, it's not a very well thought out one....no offense. The "clowns" that are getting hired before him like Tom Savage, Josh Johnson, etc...are making pennies on the dollar compared to what Kap was demanding ($16M+ range). Savage made $690k his last year in Houston, Josh Johnson made $148k last year with Washington....for reference.

Aside from the money, players who are distractions to the franchise and team always have and always will be pushed down because their play isn't good enough to justify all the negativity they bring to the franchise. Terrell Owens is a perfect example of that. He had 127 receptions and 14 TD's his last 2 years in the league and couldn't get a job in 2011 because even though he was still a hell of a lot better than at least 75% of the wideouts in the league all the other things that came along with TO were no longer worth his performance. When he was a top 10 wideout in the league it was a different story.

Well I’m glad Kap took the money if his heart wasn’t really in the fight for civil liberty.

In this particular fight civil liberty wasn't the subject matter. The subject was that the owners colluded against them to make sure that they weren't signed to play. This consequently cost them money and so they sued for damages.

It's a well thought out one with all due respect, you're just thinking differently and towards your own end.

Your "distractions" are no different than the ones teams deal with when they bring in other troubled athletes. And any competent organization can justify hiring a peaceful demonstrator especially if the fans think it will help them win. Otherwise a team can man up and do it knowing it'll die down soon enough. Just as everything does in today's society. Plus the dude never says anything. Even with the niners he protested for weeks before anyone knew what he was doing. Someone literally noticed him sitting quietly beside a Gatorade jug out of sight. Sounds like your classic troublemaker right there. SMH. Snowflakes.

And you are right about pennies on the dollar in comparison to Kaep but it also speaks to whether a team is trying to get better or just fill a spot. I'm not mad at the ones just trying to fill a spot but there seemed to be a few opportunities where someone could've used him.

And you gotta be smarter than comparing him to Owens. That's just not well thought out. His teammates love him and have repeatedly said as much. He would cause no distraction in the locker room and any fan uprising will die down quickly because people were already over it.

Again, dude literally says nothing. Stand up to your snowflake fanbase and tell them their job is to try and make the team better. Many that don't like him don't believe in the cause he was fighting for otherwise who cares. There are far worse people in the NFL than him. Standing up to a bunch of fake patriots in the stands is the least any competent organization can do. Guarantee those crybabies would get over themselves in a couple weeks the same way they do with drug users and domestic abusers. Snowflakes. Too many of them on both sides of the aisle.

Lots of angry white men in this thread who don’t like people raising awareness of cops killing innocent black people. You are on the wrong side of history again.

Glad they got paid by the slavemaster league.

No different than Juan Carlos and Tommie Smith protesting at the Olympics and being treated like trash just for putting on blast how Black Americans were treated in America at the time. Peaceful protest led to unbelievable levels of anger and disdain. Those people were on the wrong side of history much like the snowflakes today.

People using what platform they have to bring awareness and instead of "fellow Americans" showing concern, many just attacked them for peacefully protesting. Zero empathy for their fellow citizens. It's sad.

Thanks to those who might not agree with kneeling but didn't deal with it like spoiled brats, respected how protest in America works and how important and unique of a right it is to us all and some were willing to listen knowing it doesn't impact them directly. Again, thank you.

I bet you have made the argument that slavery was actually good for black people.
Slavery isnt something to flippantly make comparisons about. If you knew very much about how slaves were treated in this country, you would stop being so ignorant and comparing slaves to athletes who make a darn good living working for very very rich white guys who, many times, think they can do what they want regarding people that work for them. That makes them arrogant, spoiled and some even narcissistic. That doesnt make them slavemasters hoss. Not even close.

I can't have an actual discussion with someone who repeatedly uses the word "snowflake" to state their point of view so this is my last response to you.

I don't have any issue with the cause that he's protesting for or that he's protesting, I'm all for peaceful protest. I just don't think doing it on your employer's dime is the right timing. You're paid to be there to play football. Football gives you a platform to spread your message and that's great but the football field and the locker room aren't the place for it.

And regarding TO & Kap, you don't know anything about how Kap's teammates feel about him as a whole. You only know what the guys who support his cause feel about him. The guys who think he's self-serving or a distraction to the team would be roasted in the press if they came out and said that. Surely you know that much.

As far as finding a backup QB goes, it's not about who makes the team better....it's about who makes the team better within the framework of a salary cap. A team with a quality or rookie starting QB (there's probably 25 of them) has no incentive to spend $18MM/yr on a backup QB who brings a host of distractions with him.

He’s better than peterman but he’s a practice squad player without a bad attitude .

Also....Nathan Peterman made $346,000 last season. It has been reported that Kap wouldn't talk to teams who weren't offering him $16MM+/yr. You tell me what you would rather spend on for a player you hope only has to play in an injury situation.

It's been said time and time again yet it's somehow lost in every Kaep thread. He was offered jobs, he just thought he should make more. That's not collusion, it's erroneously thinking you have more leverage in a negotiation than you do.

God forbid he follow the rules of his private employer and not use the NFL name to further his agenda.

A platform provided by his employer. That's the key here.

Protests, regardless of whether they're peaceful, have consequences. That's why it takes courage to do them. If there was nothing to risk, then there'd be nothing to praise.

I support the awareness towards unnecessary police brutality. I also support peaceful protesting. I didn't like the way Kaep decided to protest, but it didn't bother me as much as it did some people.

At the end of the day, though, he made a team sport about himself and became a distraction. You can argue whether it was a major one or not, but at the end of the day his employer judged the distraction to be more detrimental than the value he brought as a player. That's the biggest thing. Kaep just wasn't very good anymore, and no one seems to want to say that. Had he been better, he would've gotten better offers, but he wasn't and blamed it on his protest.

Yeah it's ok if you don't respond. I'm ok with that.

Protest comes with inconvenience so doing it on his employers time when the world is watching is right about the textbook definition of when to do it. Smh. Your agreeing with peaceful protest comes with a huge plate of "you don't even understand protest". Not my opinion. You just plainly admitted it.

Again, I'm ok with a team not spending a ton on a backup so you can stop mentioning that.

My guess about his teammates had more to do with them mentioning it. They pretty much explained how he didn't mention the protest or behave any differently and how it didn't impact the locker room. He was also voted I thought I heard unanimously the award that would pretty much let you know how good of a teammate he was. See in your mind he was at practice kneeling, in the weight room kneeling, kneeling in team meetings and probably kneeling in the cafeteria. When in actuality the outside world was totally different from the team dynamic so saying he was a good teammate isn't much of a stretch.

Stop pretending like you give a damn about other people and just be honest. Him sitting or kneeling while 90k other people stood never bothered me. I personally wouldn't kneel but I also wouldn't care if one person did. I'd be more interested in why and how I could help. But then there's you. More concerned about him protesting on company time of a team you don't own while not interrupting a game you're watching since the anthem is before the game. See how that proves how fake your argument is. Good thing you're not responding. Snowflakes SMH.

I don't understand how people don't understand this concept.

If I went outside my office during lunch every day and stood out by the road with a sign of something I believe strongly in like "Quit taking human lives" or some other topic that has validity and I think is a problem in our country there's no doubt that I would be asked to stop by my employer and if I didn't I would be fired.

Snowflakes SMH.
