Totally agree. Politicians are making millions. New examples every day. In this case the pension funds for firefighters are getting screwed but the Virgina governor was able to not pay taxes on a $200 million transaction. This blows.

Have to read up on it a bit more as it looks like they would have moved the stock allocation directly into another vehicle so the question will be if they realized gains at the point of transaction. What's not clear is if the pension were an investor in Carlyle or would have been recipients of the tax payment......or both. The article doesn't state the grievance.

The Dems wanted to pass carried interest tax revisions to put some shackles on the tax avoidance from the PE's but old Sinema ripped it out of the build back broker bill as most of her campaign donations come from private equities. Oddly, Trump mentioned closing it several times in his 2016 campaign but the Repubs voted it out of the Trump tax revisions same as Sinema just did.

Stock transactions shouldn't be taxed at the same level as ordinary income.
