Sorta OT: Ho Lee Sheet how can someone be this stoopid

#1) As FOX News wants you to believe.

I don't really know what your video of Trump being an idiot (and joking with a Republican Jewish group) has to do with Ilhan Omar and the fact that her and the other "Fresh Faces" are a problem for Democrats, who were pushed into passing a toothless resolution after Omar repeatedly made anti-Semitic statements. I think bringing up the McCarthy tweet is especially disingenuous because I'm not sure how many people know that Soros or Steyer are Jewish, but even conceding that some people could interpret that as being about "Jewish money" controlling things, it's far more oblique than the things Omar keeps saying. It's also just a fact that Bloomberg and Steyer were spending a lot on the elections, and Soros has his own thing. And the Fox News comment is just lame, especially considering how prominent these "Fresh Faces" have become.

There ought to be acceptable ways to criticize Israel or people who happen to be Jewish, but the way to do that isn't to single out the Jewish with anti-Semitic tropes, or to make Jewish individuals stand in for anti-Semitic tropes. Omar may not think of what she's doing as anti-Semitic, but she picked up that kind of language from somewhere- whether it's campus activist culture, conspiracy theories, or otherwise. The source of that rhetoric is probably what we should be the most concerned about, but hearing it from Members of Congress isn't exactly good.

At any rate, this is just more whataboutism (and another example of why Trump is such a horrible vessel for... just about anything).

To each his own I guess. i think we are just very different people. When I was your age I "chose" to make a lot more than $53K a year. With the exceptions of the early years when I left the workforce and started a business, I have always "chosen" to make significantly more money this year than I made the last. If you dont have any aspirations for upward mobility, that is your own "choice". I just don't understand why you have not "chosen" to make more money, especially being a white male.

This whole personal thing you're doing is weird.

dbjork6317, there are lots of ways to get Mexico to pay for the wall outside of a direct written check. It is impossible to do any of this when you have a Dem controlled house that has one objective, be against anything that Trump is for.

Well, I'm a moderate and your point is well taken. HOWEVER, the question is: Are you just a Republican shill like most on here, bitching when YOUR guy is inconvenienced? Did you have a problem with the Republican Senate holding up the SCOTUS folks that Obama nominated? I doubt it. But it's the same thing on both sides of the aisle and one of the primary reasons this country is going downhill fast.

I'm a capitalist by nature and I think that socialism in general drags most to the norm while capitalism strives for excellence. So socialism from top to bottom in a society sucks. BUT unchecked capitalism sucks too, when the rich continually get richer at the expense of the poor and control the government. That's where we are headed right now. The strength of a country is built on the back of the middle class.

From an historical perspective, FDR put some VERY HEAVY taxes on the upper class and businesses in the early 1930s. That (and the government spending that accompanied the new taxes) jumped the US out of the Great Depression and fueled the rise of the middle class in America. Was that a bad thing? Did no companies succeed or anyone get rich in the almost 50 years that these laws were in place? Quite the contrary in fact and most consider the late 40s, the 50s, and early 60s to be a "golden age" for America. Many fortunes were made and some of the most successful companies today have their roots there.

Reagan (whom I actually like), started the rollback on taxing the wealthy and it's continued since then. And like clockwork the middle class has steadily shrunk as the tax burden on the wealthy has gone down. To be fair, the middle class shrinkage has gone both ways (more poor and more wealthy). But a country messes with their middle class at their peril and we are starting to really see the results of this.

There's a healthy balance that can be struck between extremes. And the liberal who thinks they have it all figured out is just as stupid as his conservative counterpart. And there are VERY few moderates left to inject sanity into the conversation. As an example, take this chick's Green New Deal. It's not reasonable and to say it is, is stupid. BUT, the sun delivers more energy to the earth in an hour than all of humankind uses in a year.

It's figuratively raining soup. Is the best we can do to dig and pump stuff out of the ground and set it on fire? Really? Fossil based fuels are the most efficient right now because we've been working with them for a long time and we are pretty good at it. Investing in renewable resources efficiency will yield similar results over time. AND there's a limit to how much stuff there is to dig/pump out of the ground, but the sun is going to be shining for a while. Water is going to flow and the wind is going to blow. And it's all free and right there for the taking. We just have to figure out the right bowl and spoon.

Transitioning off fossil fuels in the next 10 years isn't reasonable. But investing in renewable resources and moving away from fossil fuels is a SMART move for the future. See. Moderation is the way. Nobody foaming at the mouth at all.

Some truth here.

I can’t remember the last time I voted for somebody. Seems like I’m always voting against somebody. Particularly this last one. In a country of 350 million the best we could do was Trump and Clinton. That’s embarrassing.

It wasn't the best we could do, it was the best our democratic process could deliver. Those two were superlatively bad candidates (especially Trump), but if you're finding you're always voting against someone, maybe your expectations of across the board agreement with candidates are unrealistic.

FOX comment is about their obsession with AOC and the comment about her driving the bus for the left.

WoW, Really? So people who have the education, worked hard, saved money, then affected by life! Life happens, can be illness, the economy and or death, Life Happens!l
Also, I saved, educated with MS degree, business owner, Christian & I chose to be a billionaire...Where is My Money Mr. DPotter!

Statistically speaking, if you at least finish high school, get a full-time job, and wait til you're 21 to get married and have kids, you'll almost certainly be middle class. I think something like only 2% of people who do those things end up in poverty. Obviously, this is a generality and "life happens" as you say. Also, these may be a little more difficult depending on where you live. Still, you do have some control over staying out of poverty.

AOC is talked about way too much, by both the right and the left. However, she clearly resonates with a major portion of the left.

This whole personal thing you're doing is weird.

Not really, I take issue with this particular posters broad stroke assertion that if you are poor it is your choice. My point is that if that is the case, he should be able to “choose” to make a lot more money than he does. His statement personally offended me. And now you have made the list pal.

Ok, cool. Hook'em.

All I know, is I was the only one telling people in early 2016 that Trump would win. Got laughed by by extreme libs and loser never trumpers.
I’m telling people that Trump will win again in 2020.
The tears will be even more delicious this go round!!!

You also said that Trump had successfully "defanged" ISIS and North Korea.

Why would anyone care who somebody predicted to win an election? It's not like you knew anything special. And wanting Trump to win when there were still 17 other Republican candidates is... questionable.

Wow. Just wow. Please tell me you’re trolling

Are these choices you think most people could make? https://www.brookings.edu/opinions/...teens-should-follow-to-join-the-middle-class/

That's not to say that people want to be poor, or that they don't want to be better off. Once you've made poor choices, it can be difficult to extricate yourself from the mess. It's also much harder to make good choices when you don't have good role models and life is hard. But there are some tried and true ways of staying out of poverty.

I really believe that the conservative news media is talking about her and trying to convince everyone that Democrats are all socialists and all on the far far left which isn't true. I quite honestly don't hear much about her except from my conservative friends. As a matter of fact, I was like who the hell is AOC?

You don’t hear about her from your dem friends because they are rightfully ashamed of how stupid she is. That doesn’t mean she isn’t a big driver in that party, because she is

I don’t know. The twitterati is obsessed with her. There really is a growing faction of Democratic Socialists within the Democrat Party. They’re going to be a headache as leadership, moderates, and liberals figure out whether they want them under their big tent or whether they need to be more critical.

Statistically Speaking we can do anything to justify our isims! To imply people choose to be poor is Wild! Opportunities & other outliers, Life can adversely affect anyone! I will agree a person has control of their life, but Life Is Not Fair, thus, Statistically Speaking, some are poor!
I love how you came up with your; If you do this (high school), don’t do this (married with kids before 21), you’ll “almost certainty”, “I Think” be middle class/not poverty/2%...then, drum roll provide justification for your feelings & inexact science via brookings, Seriously! There isn’t a full proof way to avoid poverty!
Finally, try reading something less right wing & empathize with some people; veterans, disable, mental instability, lack of child support, untimely death, medical bills, working 2 jobs & are living in poverty! Life Happens!

Brookings isn’t remotely right-wing. A lot of what I said there was that there’s no way to ensure anything happens in life, but 98% sure is still pretty good!

I have no clue as to why you went on your diatribe except to extoll the virtues of "moderates" as you see them defined. So, based on that I would say that I am a conservative. But my original post still stands as how I feel about the funding situation for a wall on our southern border. If a wall is not effective on the southern border with Mexico, why do a lot of the dem shills have fences around their homes? It is simple, fences are very effective, not fool proof, but very effective, and it is a political situation we are in here with the dems not wanting Trump to have successes. I'm done!!

And the fact that Trump said, both DURING and AFTER his campaign, that it wouldn't be a check written by Mexico. He clearly stated it would be paid for in newly negotiated trade deals. The USMCA does just that. Congress needs to pass it.

Good post, dpotter24!

Mr. Hinds62, Question; Why if it was such An Emergency & Not Political, didn’t the 2 years of Republican Controlled Congress & Trump in The White House, The Wall Was Not Funded? Because this is A Political Stunt by D. Trump for political cover. Heck even Republicans don’t agree with this stunt!

"Rome wasn't built in a day!"

Dude, a fence around your acre or two of property MIGHT be a bit different than a 1200 mile long one. Maybe? A fence does make it harder to get in. And if I was going to rob a house and I had a choice between a fenced one and one without, I'd take the one without. Same thing for a house with an alarm and one without. That's why fences are effective in your context. As a barrier that someone simply wants to pass and keep moving... not so much.

But your example of a fence actually makes my point as well as any other example. So I'm a Dem Shill and I spend a couple hundred grand or more on my fence. Now I have a 10 foot stone wall around my house. Now someone WANTS to get into my yard snatch my pink flamingos and then vanish before the police can catch them. They drop by ACE hardware, grab a $50 ladder and are over my fence in seconds. They grab my flamingos and are out the front gate and gone in 2 minutes. No chance the police catch them unless they were already within a block or two of your house when the alarm went off. Not gonna work.

Again, I'm not against a wall for political reasons (THAT was my moderate point), I simply don't think it will work unless you are willing to put automated defenses on it that simply kill anyone that gets too close. I don't have the stones to pay the butcher's bill for killing a bunch of desperate refugees, and I HOPE most Americans don't either.
