You are mostly correct on the first part. Probably upper middle class type upbringing. Have inherited nothing and completely self-made.
I think I pay too much, but I can live with it as it currently sits. I would like the government to steadily roll back scope and spending and ultimately pass those reductions on to me, but feel that’s very unlikely.
It really pisses me off when people don’t think my “group” pays its fair share. The math simply doesn’t support it. That’s why I say it’s either ignorance or bitterness. People are either ignorant as to how taxes work for people earning in this range or they understand it and don’t care because they are bitter.
The dems have executed a fantastic propaganda campaign against the 1%. Every time, they leap from their $400K threshold to using billionaires as examples. There is nothing remotely similar between my family and a billionaire - whether in terms of financial security, lifestyle or tax treatment. The comparison makes no sense whatsoever, but there are plenty of voters not bright enough to understand this.
If you want to figure out how to extract more taxes from the ultra wealthy who may indeed not be paying their fair share, okay. But do not use those rare examples as a justification to raise taxes on hardworking families already paying a boatload of taxes. It’s wrong.
