There was another mass shooting today

Tragic indeed but I can’t help but wonder when gun control talk starts heating up, why do we always have these shootings start popping up.
Yea. I think outside of getting rid of all guns, this should help a ton:

From 2019:

Beginning in January, Colorado judges will have the power to temporarily remove firearms from people believed to be at high risk of harming themselves or others, as the state joins more than a dozen others that now have some type of red-flag bill on the books.

Multi-faceted challenge. One of the greatest problems is the lack of communication between counties in states, between different states, and between states and the federal government when someone has had a legal event which should preclude them from owning a firearm (involuntarily committed as an example).

Probably a bit of copycat/feedback loop. One big shooting 'inspires' another then the gun control lobby gets hotter with the messaging which 'inspires' more second amendment folks and another crazy shooter-- rinse and repeat. Easy access combined with mental instability and bit of 'inspiration' is a bad combination.

The issue is not just guns or just crazy people-- its crazy people with guns. Not sure how to address this if both sides are so absolute in their positions- can't do enhanced background checks/restrict access and can't discriminate against mental illness/potentially unstable or violent people.

Guns aren't going away and it appears crazy is here to stay. Rational thought would suggest both sides need to give a little in order to address the problem.

Bah god that’s the slippery slope argument’s music!

Media needs to stop covering these things and not give them a platform. I often question how many of these events happen due to copy cat mentality and constant news coverage. Seeing this mess on tv all the time can push some of these lunatics over the edge. It puts seeds in their heads.

We have a major issue with mental health.

I will always believe the media and social media drive the shootings and not listening to police across America

people want attention and push “it ain’t gonna happen to me”

why have these increased so much this year vs the last 4? Is it anything political to it?
There was going to be one at SAT yesterday as well. Fortunately a cop smoked the guy before he killed anyone.
The libs announced they wanted to pack the court yesterday. It's almost like Hitler taking over the country, but we're also getting a reach around

You must understand that while this sounds good on paper, it essentially gives the government the right to confiscate your weapons as they see fit.

You and your boy "Cornpop was a bad dude" Biden seem to think no amendment is absolute.

Truly hope they take every gun away. I own one and I’d give it up tomorrow even though it’s against my rights and I disagree with having to give it up.

Wonder if the media will cover mass stabbing and vehicle slaughter and whatever maniacal way these crazed individuals choose to kill folks as much or little as Europe does. Hope they continue the coverage so maybe we can actually get to the heart of the problem we’re facing with these atrocities instead of celebrating them to push some sort of political agenda. Troll or not this thread and some of these he responses are ****ing sick tbh.

I believe the mental health of this country is the worst it’s been in a long time, largely due to COVID fear/lockdowns and the media’s prerogative to divide America politically and philosophically. We still have to wear masks and social distance, which further dehumanize and isolate us, and which continue to make the problem worse.

As the lockdowns and media coverage of COVID and BLM happened, many people said they would have a drastic long term effect on mental health. Those concerns were largely ignored by those in power. We’re seeing those effects now.

The fact you'd just be willing 2 give up your rights just like that is what's most fuking sickening

Isn't this like the 3rd or 4th shooting at a FedEx/UPS facility? I know one occurred at the Kennesaw FedEx facility 5 or 6 years ago and either Fedex or UPS shooting in San Fran. Wonder if there is something underlying with the hiring or stress of these warehouses.

Remember when the "going postal" was the thing because all of the shootings at USPS facilities....maybe the same thing.

Hate to see those things happen. Terrible.

But I don't see where gun control stops these things. If anything, places that allow you to have a gun on you at all times don't have as many attacks. Some people say that is a Wild West mentality but I truly believe the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is good guy with a gun.

You don't really want to talk about it on TV -- because it puts bad ideas in mentally unstable peoples heads -- but we have seen that guns aren't the most effective way to kill a large number of people. If you look at what happened in Nice, France with the truck attack that was about a perfectly executed terror plot. Little money invested, little chance of raising an alarm in advance, and a large number of people killed.

I've noticed the past few years at Clemson football games that is what the professional security guys are on the lookout for after the games. Someone getting a bus/truck and heading into a crowd of people.

I know you’re not trying to hear this, but if it meant getting rid of mass killings I’d do it today.
My point, which you missed, is that it won’t stop what we’re seeing. We’ve had guns for hundreds of years but somehow within the last 30 years we’ve gotten to a point where they happen weekly. That’s never happened in recorded history. I’m willing to guess the media’s coverage and the involvement of politics (if you’re for guns you love mass killings, if you’re against murder you want gun control) have emboldened folks on all sides here to make this the absolute worst case scenario. If you could ask the actual victims getting mowed down I’m sure they are glad to be the face of either “they should have a weapon to protect themselves!” Or “THIS is why we should have fun control” as if their death was only good to be a pawn in the stupidest ****ing chess match our country is playing against itself.
Should be ashamed all the way

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. Same with Knives, Cars, Fire or any other weapon that can be used to harm. When you restrict you are only doing so against the law abiding citizen, not the perpetrators. How many criminals have ever done a background check before buying a weapon that they intend to use in a crime? Simple answer.... NONE!

Morgan freeman said it best if the news would stop glorifying the people and giving them days and days of coverage then they will stop trying to one up the last one and go back to offing themselves in their parents basements.

All removing guns does is stop people from protecting themselves as the bad people will always find a way to get a gun or something to cause destruction.

They fixed that problem at the USPS...there definitely isn't any stress with postal workers these days. Unless you break up their nap time

Yes, we should shut down all of these FEDEx/UPS facilities to stop these senseless tragedies! I am calling my representatives to implore them to introduce a bill to shut down these facilities so no more innocent lives are lost!

Being able to protect oneself is important and a sign of a free society. But, anyone blaming this on reporting the news is stupid. Don't touch my freedom and guns, but lets restrict media. Hypocrites. Mental health needs and better educated/smarter people is what the world needs.

Perhaps they just transferred that stress to FedEx and UPS! :)

Control crazy people, increase the budget to do something about that. Taking away guns won't solve it, the crazies will just use Bowie knives or Machetes instead.

We have the 2A for a reason, I'm not giving that up.

And I'm fine with red flag laws, as my uncle became schizophrenic at a late age after hunting and accumulating lots of guns in his life. I'm only fine when DUE PROCESS is followed though, not some loony judge just deciding to take your property away when you havent actually done anything. Thats too much of a slippery slope for my comfort with how judges have become so political.

Well if it's on the internet, it has to be true right? This is why people hold such moronic views. They believe anything the media tells them and are too stupid or lazy to find out for themselves. Also, a complete lack of common sense. If anyone thinks more gun laws/restrictions are going to stop someone who truly wants to harm others, you are just not very bright. We have laws against murdering people, how ado you think laws restricting gun purchases will help? It is not very difficult to get a gun illegally if you want one, and that will not change no matter how many more gun laws/restrictions are passed.
Also the articles linked give some insight to the purposely deceptive and false narrative being pushed, and unfortunately believed, by the media and certain political parties. The people/organizations pushing this narrative are either knowingly lying are not smart enough to do simple google searches. Either way, you are an idiot to believe anything they say without finding the truth on your own.

Truth is we are obsessed with violence as a culture. From video games to many forms of media. We’ve become desensitized when it comes to violence because we feed on it and it starts early. I’m not sure there is an absolute answer, but I do believe violence doesn’t start with inanimate objects. It starts in the minds of people. You will become watch you watch. What’s really concerning is how many people fantasize about carrying out a violent act but never act on it. Just another layer worth considering.
