Trump to nominate fox news host as secretary of defense

Here’s everything Hegseth said that clearly makes him qualified to become our nation’s military Secretary of Defense in the list below. Let me know if I missed something.
I expected this to happen. Democrats who know there isn't a real reason why he shouldn't be SecDef are more concerned with opposing trump and staying in power by appeasing their party than doing the right thing and allowing a popularly elected president who scored a massive electoral college win have his cabinet choices.

What would be the point of having them confirmed? Or put another way, what would be an acceptable reason to you to resist a nomination?
i'm assuming that's a legitimate question. "advice and consent" is what the Senate is supposed to do. room for interpretation there for sure. i come down on the side of allowing the elected executive have his nominees so that he can get his admin up and running. Historically that's been the precident, and I agree.
Edit: I'd vote to confirm if it were me. Would have done the same for Bidens' pick probably but i can't remember any of the runup to his confirmation or the hearings. In some military circles he wasn't regarded too highly but I really don't remember much that was said by or about him.

I guess I don’t see the point if it’s an expectation.
In my mind, the reason you force them to go through a confirmation process is to force the executive branch to try to stay towards moderation. So the President can’t install complete yes men (or women) with no qualifications at all. The historical precedent is there because most presidents choose candidates that make sense. Even if a party doesn’t agree with them, they are logical candidates for the other side.
Were Biden’s picks unanimously confirmed?
I think that the process has devolved into a shit show that breaks along party lines. Didn't watch the entire Hegsdeth hearing but a lot of what i did see was moronic. That's where we are at today. I personally place a high bar on withholding "consent" i don't think it should be automatic, but at the same time, i personally thing there needs to be something really, really bad to withold it.
Were Trumps appointees unanimously confirmed the first time around? Democrats were pretty lockstep to do everything possible to hinder his first administration, IMHO. The impeachment proceedings made up my mind for me that it was more about party than about individual conviction. So, i think that in a similar fashion repubs returned the favor when it came to Biden. And here we are. I guess tit for tat is going to continue, it looks like.
I don't disagree with a lot of that. Though I don't think any of that is a single party issue.
I admittedly didn't watch the Hesgeth hearings, but for the life of me can't figure out why conservatives aren't asking for someone with more relevant experience for such an important role. Someone who from numerous accounts hasn't only struggled with alcohol, but has lets those struggles overflow from personal to professional life. Now you want to give him the Pentagon and all the responsibilities and more importantly stress that comes with it? All that being said, no doubt the hearings were a sh!tshow. They are regardless of the party in power.

I can only speak for me. And I don't consider myself "conservative" but then again, the definition of that is anybody's guess as it changes over time.
I don't believe there was anything that stuck on hegsdeth on how he was drunk at work on the regular or was sexually assaulting or getting blowjobs from his female employees on company time. A guy getting some strange while married, isn't great and it's not my style BUT, lots of shit goes on in a marriage/relationship and I personally am not a sworn morals officer or judge so I don't feel qualified to judge. Lots of successful epic figures in and out of the military weren't perfect people. There was only one of those that ever walked this earth.
I'm happy that Trump is skipping over the General Officer/Flag Officer crowd and going with someone from down farther in the ranks. Trump believes that hegs will keep the priorities the priorities and not work at cross purposes. I think that's the deciding factor for him. Hegsdeth' s biggest challenge will be that there is so much bureacracy and inertia within the Pentagon that will be trying to keep him busy with what THEY think is important and essentially turn him into a mascot. And many within the general/flag officer class will not like working for some former Army National Guard Major. He is going to have to walk in the door with both hands on his balls and be ready to work on day one and make someone an example if that's whats needed.
The day to day running of the Pentagon.... I'm not worried. I can tell you with complete certainty that you could put a cardboard cutout in the chair and the machine will still keep on keeping on. Besides I would assume that he's getting help with evaluating the team (Depiuties, Assistants , Deputy Assistants, Service Secretaries) etc.
Maybe it will work out, maybe not. But hopefully he can hold it together long enough to make some progress on the big picture stuff. Not my decision to make but again I think the Pres should get his picks out of the gate, except in rare exceptions.
