Two residents died from COVID

That’s insane. I thought teachers were underpaid. Jeez

When I did my toughest year of residency, I divided my recorded duty hours (probably worked many more but would never record past 80 so I didn’t get in trouble) at the end by my ACGME salary and I made a cool $13.09 an hour pre tax. When your training is 7 years after medical school, that definitely brought my spirits down that day lol.

Holy shit. That’s crazy. How do you even live when you’re working that much for no money?

A cursory search of her username on fb yields a pretty promising result. If so, pretty retarded for using her real name as a troll account.

I know for a fact I have found her on Facebook. We actually have 3 friends in common. I won’t post because I know I would get banned but I know it’s her. She has her trump shirt on!

I have never recorded more than 80 hours in residency or fellowship - again bc I don’t want anyone to get in trouble. I feel like everyone for the most part works more than 80 hours (except derm and a few others) - and the whole “per week” thing is BS. It’s in 6 days mostly.
I’m thinking about doing EP after, but that’s 2 more years on top of this fellowship and it’s just kind of depressing to think about like you said lol. That’s 9 years of training after medical school, and at some point I need to start making real money

What is EP and what kind of fellowship are you in now? You know, if you are really a doctor. LOL

Two medical residents in NYC have in the last 24 hours from COVID-19. Both were in their 20s and became infected while taking care of patients with COVID. Very sad situation.
Keep this in mind when people continue to minimize this whole thing.

Terrible news, I’ve been dismissing the resident under me every day early and making sure he doesn’t do any physical exams. Now that you’re (hopefully long lasting) immune, do your best to protect your colleagues. We’re all in this together.

I’m a peds subspecialist, so have avoided the front lines, but I’m terrified of giving it to my family. Basically strip to nothing everyday in the drive way and go straight to the shower. Lysol everything, including my shoes. I’ve worked 18 straight days to relieve my older colleagues so they can just do telemedicine and avoid exposure. Have gotten home past 9 4 days this week. Regional hospitals have closed their peds units to convert to adult units so as the quaternary children’s hospital, we’re slammed.

Honestly can’t even imagine what NY is going through.

EP is short for electrophysiology. These are the doctors that do pacemakers , defibrillators , congenital cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac ablations If different areas of the heart (to disrupt abnormal circuits in the heart) and anything specifically related just to advanced conduction abnormalities of the heart.
You can apply to do an EP fellowship after you do you cardiology fellowship (which I’m doing now). It’s a sub fellowship within cardiology

EP is a cool field. My advise to you as youngish doctor finished with a long training would be do what stimulates you mentally because boredom breeds discontent. You’ll never find an unhappy doctor who loves the field he’s in.

Thanks for sharing and don't let the fringe nuts off their meds get to you. Will keep their families, and yours, in our prayers. Terrible situation for lots of people right now. It is disturbing how much political crap is taking place surrounding this on both sides. People attacking those risking their lives should be ashamed of themselves. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, this is unacceptable.

this is really good advice. I’ll probably bite the bullet and do it - I enjoy it , and I’ve liked the cases I’ve scrubbed into. Thanks for the words of wisdom and your perspective

The sirens are nonstop - no cars, no people, just echoes of sirens.

No, I don’t think that. Not with the force of the media these days. If a famous person dies... Wikipedia updates in seconds. The media would already have reported two 20 somethings dying. In fact, they would take it and run with it! A lot of damn idiots around here.... but I’m not one of them.

you couldn’t have been more wrong and why was this the hill you chose to die on today?

Well I decide if I post or not. Not survive? Lol. If idiots on TI disagreeing with me is the worst thing that happens to me today, I’m cool with it.
It’s not idiots disagreeing with you. It’s everyone.

All I did was ask for a damn link and was blasted for it.

No. You all but called the OP a liar. Ridiculous.

Nah...if you come on here and tell me Dabo robbed a bank...I want proof. Call me skeptical that way.

this isn’t that. Not by a long shot. This isn’t “I’m hearing cornell powell is gonna transfer”. Not even remotely close. You should know better “if you’re a doctor”.

I’m usually on your side and think a lot of people attack you for no good reason but you asked for it today. And then some. We have a guy in the front lines giving us behind the scenes information and you wanna harass him about not having a link and then accuse him of lying and/or “adding to the hysteria”?!?! The only one who got hysterical was you. Very disappointing and also do t understand why you haven’t come back and apologized since the twitter links were posted.

Residents do work a a lot of hours but that is how it has always has been. That is how you get experience and learn. It is easier now days as the hours are supposed to be limited to 80 hours a week and no more than 24 hours in a row. NY libs felt it was dangerous for them to work more so rules were constructed. 30 years ago a surgery intern would work up to 240 hours in a two week period taking in house call every other night and working every other weekend.

Lol! No I’m not. I want a link on two 20 something residents dying in NY after caring for COVID patients. I’m
not as gullible as some of you. I don’t just take what a stranger posts on a sports message board as fact.

might be rumors but how anyone could think this isn’t as least a reasonable occurrence is beyond me.

Satisfied now?
Apologies?

Amy, quit being a troll. I’m not going to post on a public forum how I know this happened. If you think I will completely fabricate somebody’s death for likes on tigerillustrated dot com, then you are a sad woman. Completely annoyed with people who push this type of narrative on me. Stop wasting my time

Thank you. Your information is good enough for me. Those who want more as a$$es who would beg for help if they contract this virus. I'm sure they'd appreciate your not sharing their inconsiderate skepticism.

A number of my friends and neighbors work in the various metro Atlanta hospitals. The news they share is very disturbing. I work at CDC and the data is equally disturbing.

Please don't let a$$es dissuade you from sharing updates. I read all of your posts and very much appreciate your information.

Prays for all of those on the frontline and their families. This is an invisible war fought by the public health community without the required PPE, medical knowledge (new virus), or any clear cure. Every patient saved is a battle won....until we are armed to win the war.

@amynhop is a genuinely bad human being. She enjoys bringing conflict to the board.

Honestly I suspect if she wasn’t such a big trump supporter @Cris_Ard would have dealt with her long ago. If she was posting liberal opinions and attempting to divide the board that way, she’d have been zapped already. All she does is bring divisiveness to the board and rarely even posts about Clemson sports.

You won’t find her in any thread where the topic is sports discussion, but she’ll gladly start political threads with the goal of creating tension or personally attack posters and their integrity as she has here today.

Again, she’s just a bad person. And I’m happy to say she never graduated from Clemson.

Wish there wasn’t such a strong, clear political bias on this board that allows her to continue with her constant wedge driving.

I would "ignore" her, but I just can't on principle.

Amy is simply a garbage human being and a terrible poster. She brings nothing to the board and brings nothing to society. She has no value whatsoever.

Her ban would be cause for joyous celebration. What a POS. For the record I was one of the first to start calling her out on being absolute trash.

No one should be surprised if two young doctors die in a single day from CV19. When i was following developments in China closely in January/early February, i remember two twenty-something Chinese doctors dying within a day or two of each other (one male and one female). China allowed this information out, so you can imagine how many other young doctors, nurses, and health care providers died. The danger to young people has been grossly underestimated. I am pretty fearful for the young health care workers in my family, particularly as the PPE is in ridiculously short supply.

for the record, I have never felt you were doing anything but giving honest feedback with your post. Thanks for the information. Prayers sent for all frontline workers. As always thanks for your service.

Here is a link to Dr. Ding's twitter page. Dr. Ding was among the first (if not THE first) American medical figure to raise alarms about the risk of the virus to the USA back in mid to late January. Many at that time claimed he was alarmist and reckless. He turned out to be right. You may want to follow his twitter feed to get his take on developments. Nearly every step of the way he has been right, but ignored. It is baffling.

In any event, the tweet that he re-tweeted regarding the death of two young residents is now deleted. I have no idea why, but I have concern that it is because of pressure from hospital administrators. There are stories coming out around the country of physicians being fired for disclosing lack of proper PPE or insisting on wearing their own PPE when their employer refuses or is unable to provide proper PPE, etc.
Similarly, we are told that masks are not necessary and should not wear them and then a few weeks later we are told wearing them is important. I get the feeling we (and health care workers) are being told what is expedient rather than the truth. It is an appalling situation and is shocking to me that this is the USA. When this is over, there needs to be a Truth and Reconciliation Commission and all chief executives of hospitals, government entities (the President, all applicable cabinet secretaries, heads of applicable federal agencies, and governors of both parties), and public health agencies need to be brought before the public to explain their actions and inactions from December 29th until the pandemic was controlled. This (and anything similar to it) must never happen again.

A doctor who studied at Johns Hopkins and Harvard? No thanks. I’m going to continue to listen to our brain dead president.

I know, right. Look at this gem making fun of him in late January. Media needs to also be held accountable when this is over.

At least Mr. Madrigal (the author of The Atlantic article) had the guts to later admit he was wrong.

I’ve always been supportive of Trump because the economy was doing well under him. He acts like an idiot but that never bothered me. Please explain how you can still support him after the way he handled this? I honestly just want to know. You know that he said this was going to magically disappear by April.

Healthcare workers are being muzzled and threatened with firing if they speak out about conditions inside. My guess is that may be why he deleted that post.
